Doberman stages :)

It looks ok, but seems a bit overkill on the tape!

It you can find someone to show/teach you how to do posting properly, it really is easier to not have to worry about getting to the vet to do them. I also like to do ears about every 5 days so that their ears can air out/get cleaned more often.  I don't know if the picture showed up, but this is pretty typical posting for puppies - on this particular litter, I didn't use a brace as it wasn't needed due to a high ear set. seems my pictures are not posting.... new computer!!

If you look at my puppy picture of Jezebel, you can see her ears posted.... not the best picture for looking at ears but the best I can do.

Thank you haha im terribly afraid of posting myself i think I would mess it up :/ this is my first doberman but I'll ask the vet to use less tape next time. He gets its changed once a week as well.

Anymore advice is totally welcome:)

Thank you so much

Hi,

Here's a pic of when our boy when he had his posts in...we used pipe insulation with Ostobond glue and Johnsons porous tape.  This was the instructions from our breeder and she showed us step by step instructions of how to do the posts.

(YAY! I posted a picture!). AresDobie, here's my Griff, pretty similar posting to yours (but I think you also use one of those plastic 'frame thingies'?). We (okay, the wife) changes the posts pretty much every other day since I've been tackling the yard with landscaping and this little horse-puppy crashes through branches and mud, and the only thing keeping his ears from getting mucky is the vetwrap.

We had been using the basic medical tape, but my wife opted for the Kendall wrap stuff which sticks to his ears way better.

It's fun trying to keep'em steady, right? Like all those puppies in the how-to videos...my wife mutters that they have to be sedated, it's the only explanation...

Lol sedatives are our saving grace for this hyper handful !

But serious question the vet wants us to take the posting off the night before and let his ears rest..... This doesn't sit well with me at all, I have a gut feeling that isn't right.... Can someone please tell if this is normal ?

No it's not and I've never understood why anyone would recommend letting the ears flop!  Take the ears out just before you go to the vet and clean them out - they will be nice and dry by the time you get to the vets. Everytime the ears flop, it will take longer to finally stand.

I searched and called up another vet somewhat near me and he said that was not normal and I was right ! So we will be taking our lil man over to them instead.

Have you tried posting them yourself? Part of me wants to say 'it's easy! so many how-to videos, even the forums have step by step tutorials' at the same time the (smarter) part of me has to add in 'it helps if you have a second pair of hands to actually do all the taping'. My wife says it's all practice. The first day, we (okay, she. I was playing with Griff) took close to an hour to get all the supplies in order, clean up part of the table (she later pulled out the grooming table she used when she showed our Maine Coon cats), and round up me and the pup. Now, still takes a while to round the two of us up, but she can get those ears untaped, cleaned and taped in about 15 minutes simply because most of the time is spent wrestling the dog who thinks it's all great fun.

She says she's having flashbacks of when she used to babysit her then-3YO nephew when he was going through his Nudist Stage, having to wrestle clothes on a small child that did not want to be clothed. Ears seem to be the same.

Thank you for the links that was very thoughtful I'll give that method a try after I watch the vet I like to see how it's done in a hands on matter so I can mimic that ! Hopefully it will be ok when I do it !

U tube has some good posting videos.  Our breeder recommended us to keep posting until all our boys baby teeth came out.   His ears came our great.

I watched how a different vet did it and it is a much better job. He walked me through it so now all I need is the supplies :) I will no longer be putting the post down inside his ear cuz it irritates him very badly!!! The vet showed us a great way to do it and he's a much happier boy !
