Ok... I am a first time owner of a beautiful Dobe.  I've usually had Siberians and my last beloved dog was a Rottie.  This is my first Dobie and I'm dealing with his ears.   He has one ear up and I've been taping them up and trying to keep them up since he was about 12 weeks old.  I've had to give them breaks in between because he has had skin problems, oozing from not in the inside...on the outside which caused hair loss.  I finally found tape that works and doesn't cause that, but by that time the ear that wants to droop seems to keep wanting to do that.  One ear is erect and looks perfect, the other droops.  I tape it up & an hour after I untape, it's right back down.   My question........   He turned a year old 2 weeks ago,   Is it hopeless now?

I can't take him to the vet or anyone here to help me in my area.   No vet in a 100 mile radius approves of ear cropping.  So I've tried to follow the instructions to tape his ears off of many instructions from the Internet.  And I've watched videos of taping instructions that I got from here at these forums and tried to follow it to what I believe is the best I can.

Just keep working on his ears :) It takes awhile for some Dobes' ears to stand properly. Leave the post in for more than just an hour, maybe a week at least before taking it down again to see if it's alright.
