My male Dobe is 1 1/2 months old.  Had his ears cropped at 8 weeks, we picked him up at 12 weeks.  Have posted his ears tell he was done teething.  One ear is gorgeous and the other is still floppy.  We use breath rite strips and alternate with taping.  When he has breath rite strips on his ear, it looks great.  We supplement with glucosamine/chondroitin.  Friends (that do not have Dobermans) have been saying we should just let it be natural.  We just feel like we failed.  Is it time to just accept the fact that his ears are not perfect?  In my opinion he is a very handsome and amazing dog.

Does the ear stand sometimes like when he's alert to something? If so don't give up yet. If the ear stands with a breath rite in it, stick one in there. I found that the wal-green knock offs worked better than the brand named ones. I would double them up. Makes them stiffer. When he lays down and he is laying on the offending ear, just pull it out from under his head. I know you can't do this when you're sleeping but when you're awake.....

I think Jax was almost 2 yrs when we didn't need to breath-rite him. When he's relaxed hanging out inside, his left ear will still hang at half mast but when he's out side, working, playing or alert, it stands perfectly.

Nah, don't give up yet, keep pitching.

Yes it stands up on its own when he is really alert, or running in the wild.  Thanks for your input.  We will keep trying.

I would encourage you to keep taping as well. I had to keep taping my males ear just one until well after 18mo. his ear broke right above the nub. So I used backer rod about an 1-2 inches backtaped and taped right in that area. Im glad I persisted! His littermates owner however did not and he has one ear that stands perfectly and one that flops.

In total agreement here.  DJ's ears both stood SO well after her posting was over, but within a couple months, her left one started to droop a little about half-way up.  She has a weak spot half way up the outer edge of her ear, and it wants to bend right there at that weaker, thinner spot.  With a Breathe Rite, she looks great.  Without it, sometimes it stands, sometimes it doesn't.  I still use a Breathe Rite in her ear all the time.  Clear ones are not even noticeable to other people and DJ is so used to them, she doesnt try to scratch them out.

She just turned 2, and I might be a tad bit too full of hope, but I havent given up on that ear standing on its own.  Maybe..............someday.............
