We have a 6 month old black Doberman. We have never had one before and are leading lots about her and the breed. Kenzie has a thinning stop (Of fur) on her back. It is about the size of a quarter. We noticed it getting worse after she got spayed on Tuesday. Also she is having lots of accidents since we brought her back home from the vets office, is this normal?

You might copy this question into the doberman health threads to get faster responses, I wish I could help but I don't have a dobie just a rottweiler. Your vet should be alert to this and give you advice.....

Although some of us might have had similar symptoms.. we're not vets and without a proper diagnosis from your doc, I would hesitate to offer any suggestions.. could be a hot spot.. could be allergies.. could be mange.. could be.... well could be a lot of things. Same with the accidents after her spay..

Good luck and let us know what's going on.

Thank you guys. I will call the vet on Monday and see if I can get her in. I just thought someone might have experienced the same thing. She loves to go to the vet so she will be excited.

I would ask the vet to do a scraping for demodex mange - it is not uncommon at your puppy's age.

As for the accidents, remember that she just had major surgery.... it may take a little while for her body to get back to normal.

Thanks, I was worried it might be something like that. As far as the accidents, we are just getting up with her every two hours and she is doing good with that. She is bell trained so it is not to much of a problem during the day (because my husband and I both work from home).

I will. My husband noticed that one of the pads on one foot looks like it is scrapped off (was not like that yesterday). She is an inside dog and our yard is all grass so we don't think she could have scrapped it on anything. She also has an area under her chin that looks irritated. I will call them in the morning at 8:00 when they open. I'm getting a little worried about her. Can't hardly wait till tomorrow to find something out.
She just got spayed on Tuesday, so I'm hoping she did not pick something up while she was there. Maybe her immune system is down from the antibiotics they gave her? I will post in the morning when I find out when I can get her in.

On the plus side she did not have any accidents today. I'm sure it will be another long night of taking her out every two hours but she is worth it. :)

Just got home from the vets office. Her paw is fine but the spot on her back tested positive for demodex mites. :(
The vet thought it was just from the stress of getting spayed because the spot was so small but I asked them to do the skin scrape. We go back in 30 days to have her tested again. In the meantime she is taking Ivomec 1%.
He thought she was having accidents from drinking so much water. If it is still happening in a couple of weeks they will do some testing.
