Hi,

Bella peed the bed very badly last night and there are other signs she has been leaking. She kept on licking herself there to try to hide the fact. Our bed had a wet patch as big as a basketball.

We took her to the vet this morning and she will start on antibiotics (750mg amoxicillin) after dinner. Even though the full results won't be in until monday and thursday.

I just want some reassurance it will be ok (+- repercussions drugs side effects etc)  to put her on the prescription, even though it may be for something she does not have ie a urinary infection.

We would love to hear what you think, my trusted friends on GD.

Thanks!

 Julia

here is a cute pic of her to enjoy

Lots of prayers my love.. how scary for you I know..

.I'm sure the antibiotics are a broad spectrum that will not do any damage..Hoping the labs come back with 'just' a UTI. Please let us know..

Poor sweetie.. .you too.. breathe

amoxicillin is a wide range antibiotic and should take care of anything that might be wrong unless it's serious. They usually prescribe it when they are waiting for definite test results cause it won't hurt them regardless of what the tests show but it will help if there is something that needs attending to while you wait on those test results, instead of putting of treatment till the results are in it's the best way.

Sounds like a UTI - I just got back from ER with Fidget my cat for a UTI and she was doing the same thing, licking and dribbling in her sleep and then last night was trying to actually pee on the sofa on her blanket and then tried to spray the front of the sofa thank god nothing was coming out but she is being treated and they were going to give her amoxicillin but she cannot be medicated easily so they gave her an injection instead.

It should be fine, hang in there and keep us posted!!!!

"cannot be medicated easily" .... sounds familiar.

They gave us 250 and 500 mg size pills, we wasted some of them due to improper handling and quick unseen dribbles by Bella.

Now we are with the program using cold cream cheese 'bullets', suggested by the vet tech. It works, but I still have to get it to the back of her maw. She has learned the swallow command.

She feels great! And she is getting a little yogurt too. + No more symptoms.

Thanks for your caring replies!

Lil' Update,

Bella got 5 days more worth of amoxicillin, becaue even though the uti test was clear, she showed via ultrasound a sign of an inflamed bladder lining, possibly from a problem that went undetected. If she shows any symptoms after this medication is given, there will be more testing done.

I am a little worried about giving her so much cream. - 1 teasp per meal. May have to graduate to thick 'labne' yogurt covering the pills.

My girl had the same issue. She was treated with antibiotics for 2 weeks. Issue was not resolved. She ended up having Crystal in her urine and diet was changed. She was diagnosed with urinary incontinence and has takes medicine for this. Hope this is not the case for your dog.

Thanks for your concern!

 Bella has been very well.

We went to Louisiana to purchase a vintage trailer and Bella stayed with her favorite dogvacay host. When we picked her up Dana said B had had a few "accidents".... I thought maybe some incontinence.

But once home, she has been fine, with no symptoms. I think maybe she was playing so hard and swimming so much that she just took in an inordinate amount of fluids.

2 days ago I threw her ball at the same time another dogs ball got launched. They collided! Bella was hind leg limping, I was terrified something bad had happened and came home for 2 days only leash walking and she is fine now, but will not be off leash another day or 2.

Love her so much.

She's already getting silver, on her chin, only 4 1/2>>>
