Sage feels soft & smells of a clean lavendar mint after his shower outside [with water hose]. Have y'all heard of Cloud Star products? The Buddy Wash Pet Shampoo http://www.cloudstar.com/images/WASH_l.jpg is a non-alcohol based, all natural ingredients, pH balanced, and safe to use in conjunction with topical flea treatments. With other shampoos his coat was so dry he could have been in head n shoulders [for dogs, if such existed] commercial as a before example with dandruff. *Here is the link... http://www.CloudStar.com *BTW, I have no affiliation or financial interest with Cloud Star Company. Although, it is kind of cool one of the ingredients is sage extract. What shampoo products do y'all use?

I must say Sage is very compliant while getting his teeth brushed. I apply a small amount of [dog] dental paste on a little rubber thimble like item that came with the paste. Anybody brush your Dobe's teeth, too?

He loves to have his coat brushed after his wash, too. On a sidenote, awhile back Sage watched my wife using a small wooden back scratcher. She then used it on him and he loved it. Now, whenever Sage sees either one of us with the back scratcher he comes running & sits in front of us just like when we give him a treat and waits for his turn to be scratched.

Happy 4th of July!!!

Happy to hear about Buddy Wash. Next time we go to the states I will visit one of the PetCos and see if it's available. Products for dogs are nil to none here in Baja and even the kibble we feed our girl has to be purchased on the other side.( Wellness Super 5 Mix Healthy Weight) ( She has a low thyroid) Same goes for the toothpaste.. I am happy to know of that as well. Sofia loves to have her teeth brushed.. I just use water. As far as itchy, sometimes she gets a little flaky and like Sage, when she sees her hair brush, she loves to come over and get a good brushing. I give her a scrambled egg in a pat of butter every now and then and a couple of times a month she gets a hot oil treatment ( EVOO)

Thank you for your suggestions.

Can you order online? Believe it or not, I ordered protein & other bodybuilding supplements while in Iraq.

Getting mail delivered here is a challenge. Because we're in Mexico, they do not allow any pharmaceuticals to be sent through. They have the right ( and do) open any packages. And charge for it. We visit the states every other month or so for essentials ( pet supplies and Trader Joe's)

I use and recommend Nova Pearls for bathing the dogs.  It does a really nice job.  The rinsing is really important.  When you think you've rinsed enough, rinse some more.  You should also use tepid water, not warm.

Can I buy it at Petco of Pet Smart?  That's where I get all my pet supplies since they are nearby...

dobieluvr, when comes to supplies we shop almost exclusively at Pets Mart. However, I stumbled upon Cloud Star at a full service Car Wash in the gift shop area. Later checked at Pets Mart but no luck. I ordered a gallon online and no shipping charge. I believe on the website is an option to search for retailers. However, free shipping & I'm happy ordering on the CloudStar.com site.

The gallon size came with a dispenser and has lasted a long time.

I am going to try it because I can't seem to find any product that clears up his dandruff...

I like the Nova pearls as well. I totally agree about the rinsing, most people don't rinse nearly enough. Dobermans don't have to be washed that often unless they are living in areas that they get dirty. I heard somewhere that Dobermans or probably any dog for that matter can get really bad dandruff when stressed. I also feel if they are bathed to much it dries the skin out and creates more of a problem.

Dang, I forgot to mention, Faye Strause from Sherluck kennels, a well known breeder/judge had a recipe that she uses on her dogs to help keep them smelling good and helps with the coat. I will have to see if I can find it again. I've been meaning to look it up and use it on my own inbetween baths.

In between touch up sounds good. Post that recipe!

I agree, frequent bathing (with the wrong shampoo) exacerbates the dandruff. I was guilty of same. The Vet told me it's okay to bathe Sage often (I'm a clean freak) ONLY with shampoo products without sodium lauryl sulfate & not alcohol based. Until I found cloud star (natural herbs/oils) I was buying shampoo at the Vets. I'm sure other natural shampoo products exist.

I have used Emu Oil Shampoo, but not bought yet cause it cost too much to ship. It almost doubles the price....But it is wonderful! Smells good too. works great!

KENIC KALAYA EMU OIL SHAMPOO contains concentrated surfactant blend (coconut base shampoo) which is detergent and soap free, purified emu oil, glycerin, EGDS, Glyceryl stearate, EDTA (sequestrant), papaya extract, mango extract, almond oil, DMDH hydantoin, deionized water.  This formulation contains no alcohol or animal by-products

I have heard of Buddy on the Yorkie forum they ALL love it! But I haven't tried it yet

I started another thread with the spray for inbetween baths. It ended up being fairly long. I couldn't find the original recipe but found some great ones that were very similar and alot of people suggesting the ACV which I think I might try. Let you know how it goes.
