Does anyone have experience dealing with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in their dobies? My dobie, Cassius, is 4.5 years old and was diagnosed today. I'm heartbroken and at a loss. The treatment options we have is amputation of his leg, chemotherapy and radiotherapy but the cancer will still likely spread.

Right now I'm focusing on keeping his pain levels under control and taking him to his favorite places as one last hoorah together.

I am just heartbroken to hear of this. I hope you and your doggie will get through this challenge. It seems like he is so young. I knew a 3 legged dog that went to see his girl pal 2 miles and back along a country road. Every day. So hopefully that outcome can be a reasonable option.

Enjoy each other to the utmost!

Gods blessings upon you and Cassius.

I've had one with osteosarcoma - she was diagnosed when she was 8.  You already know the options.  Unfortunately, the reading I did back then said that younger dogs will probably metastacize sooner than older ones.  By the time you determine that the dog has osteosarcoma, it's probably too late.

I did not choose amputation.  I chose pain meds and to give her as soon as we had.  I gave her lots of cancer supplements and did my best to keep her comfortable, and we had about 7 months.

I'm sorry you are going through this - hugs to you and Cassius.

Fortunately, I've not had to deal with canine cancer yet in a personal dog. I would however take the road that Glengate did. Keep them comfortable, feed healthy, etc....
