Greeting all,

I'm new to the forum. My Noah has been favoring his hind paw. I have checked it out several times. He doesn't like it touched, but he will not bite or growl when I check it. I see no cuts, or bumps, or swelling. His large pad has several cracks in it compared to his other paw. I'm new to owning and caring for dogs in general and don't know if cracks are normal. Can you advise me please? I've checked his leg, knees, joints and it definitely seems to be the paw.

thanks in advance.

Joan

How old is he? You should maybe try putting some coconut oil on the pad or mushers secret is really good for them. Are they bleeding ?

No they are not bleeding, that's why I didn't think it was a problem. He's 1 1/2 years old. Coconut oil is ok? it won't make his pads more tender?

If he's limping and favoring it and it didn't go away quickly (like he stepped wrong) he needs to go to a vet. They can get broken toes, he could have some kind abscess, or something else going on.

Thanks, I put some coconut oil on it and he is at least walking better now. I'll keep an eye on it and call the vet in the morning on Monday. Thanks.

Yes coconut oil is great I put a little on my boys paws every night to keep them from cracking. He also gets a tablespoon of coconut oil with his meals everyday :)
