The other night at class Kaiser was refusing the sit. (which he never does, we started a new class, so I thought he was just out of sorts with new dogs and instructor)

After we got home, when he got up later in the evening he had a slight limp on his hind leg.  Tuesday he didn't limp at all and appeared fine but he still refuses to sit.  But will follow everyother command instantly.  He appears still be favoring so slight you have to really stare to catch it.

He has had no trauma that I am aware of and he is with me or in a safe place constantly.  Going to call the Vet today.

Has anyone had any simular experiences?  Kaiser turned 10 months yesterday.

thanks guys.

Mary

Is he allowed up on the sofa at all, is it possible that he got off the sofa/chair etc. wrong?  Honestly it doesn't take much effort to pull/strain something.

Keep us posted on how this goes.

I know that dobies can have "growing" pains...maybe that's what's going on. Good luck and keep us updated!

Two things, ( actually three)

First: Glad you're taking him in to see the doc.. it always wise no matter what you hear from our experts on this wonderful Forum.

Second: puppies ( and he's still a pup) are clumsy and oft times bump into things and or strain while jumping running, cavorting around like a .... well like a pup. ( That's one of the reasons we're asked not to run our kids too long or too hard and keep them on soft surfaces ( grass, dirt etc) til the growth plates are fully formed at around 18 months

Third: I see you live in Mass.. Bbbbbrrrrrrr  cold.. wondering if maybe he's beginning a bit of stiffness in his joints from the cold. He's still young, but it's been mighty cold there.

That's all I've got.

I'll check later this afternoon to see what his vet had to say. Good luck and good Dober-vibes to Kaiser. He's a great looking guy.

Slight ACL tear, Pano just a few thoughts that come to mind.

One of our puppies at about 7mo tore the ACL, it started out as limping and ended up in surgery, we have had other puppies develop Pano and that can make them limp for awhile. Then there are others that just get up wrong play or move funny and twist something and limp for a bit. The first thing I do is crate rest and no play if this doesn't cure it then to the vet we go.

Let us know what the vet said, hopefully you will have nothing to worry about.

Fancy got a slight case of "growing pains" at about that age.  We too were in OB classes and had to skip one because of it.  I decided to keep her quite for a few days and it went away on it's own, but a trip to the vet is a good idea.  A torn ACL is so easy for them to do.  One wrong twist and there it's happened.

Mass weather is messed up! One day snow, next day you can walk out in a Tshirt^^ It could be growing pains! I don't think that it is due to the cold, because it is not THAT COLD this year :) When we took Sasha for walks during the bad MA winters, we kept it short, threw a coat on her and I put cut off socks over her legs (like legwarmers) to protect her joints! Hope all is well with Kaiser and it is just a little boo boo :)

Hi,

We went to the vet.  He ruled out pano, ACL tear and thought maybe this was just a strain.  A week of anti-inflammatory medication, and no long walks at all.  If he does not improve we will return in a week for x-rays. Kaiser, fortunately did not limp today. I almost didn't bring him.  I had video taped him though so Dr. Wolfhal could see him lame.  He was even sitting waiting for his food like a such a good boy. I just love him to pieces.  Thank you for all your support we appreciate it.  posted a pic of Kaiser doing him Rest and Recovery chewing a bone.  Hopefully, this is just a strain.

I'm glad it wasn't anything serious and that he's feeling better.  Who wouldn't with that big yummy bone!

Thank you so much for posting.. so glad it's not a tear or hips... silly puppy, just rambunctious and wants to run!! The rest will do him good, he just doesn't know that.

Here's a thought.. because Sofia has a slight bit of arthritis in her hips, I give her a good massage before her morning run..even in our balmy weather.

I know Kaiser does not have arthritis.. but you do have some brutal weather.. maybe think about a warm up of sorts before he heads out to that 'arctic air' ( don't know how you do it.. I hate cold.. wet cold.. don't ask)

take care and love the picture of your beautiful HEALTHY boy!!

Thanks guys : )... still doing well hooray!

Lady Kate,
I too hate the cold. New England breed and born still doesn't toughen the blood. I bundle up when we go out, scarf, hat, layers, I look rather silly but must to be warm. Mornings are the worse. Well, Spring will be here before we know it.

Happy Weekend
