Hi all, I discovered in Abby a week or so ago that the colour part of her eye is not round.

There is a part at the top of the eye where the colour divets and then continues in a normal roundness. I have now also noticed it in her other eye where there is a tighter curviture closer to the tear duct.

Its my understanding its a congenital defect that shouldn't affect her in any way. (she can catch fetched balls and has no trouble spotting short and long distance)... still, I wonder if anyone has had experience with this, is there anything I can do to ensure good health in adulthood?

I will try to get a photo up of it soon, its not really noticable, only that i saw her looking sideways at me and though.. wait a minute?

here are far more extreme examples of what I'm talking about

here is an image of Abbys eye, you can identify the missing peace but also the irregular shape.

what does your vet say?

The vet has not seen this before and asked for time to research it.

I would ask my vet for a referral to a vet eye specialist - not sure where you live but you would be best to go right to someone who knows more about it. No vet can be expected to know everything - it would be impossible.

The one thing I did see was that a dog with this should not be bred. Have you notified their breeder?

Thats right, its congenital and should not be bread in, the parents of the puppies are dead, father before birth (hit by a car) and mother during birth. however, I may inform him to try and contact the owners of the others in the litter.

Good luck to you - I'll be interested in knowing what a specialist says if you see one.
