I'm looking for an alternative for Raw hides...

A few days ago, Zelda vomited up the raw hide she had eaten that day (she's a night muncher, so her stomach is more or less empty) and I don't think her eating any more of that kind of raw hide would be good for her. Is there a good alternative for raw hides? Would greenies work? Or nylabones?

Bully sticks......They last quite a while, but I like to take them away when they get too small.I'm a little paranoid about choking hazzards.

My dogs cant handle rawhide so I don't give it to them.  They chew on pig ears (the little dogs can make one last for an hour or so...Ziva, about 10 minutes) and also bully sticks.  I give them the pigskin rolls, which are more digestible than rawhide, but doesn't last very long.

I say Bully sticks too. I also take them away at about 2-3 inches.

Here is a great website www.bestbullysticks.com

Regular ones in the stores are either fake or really expensive like 8-10 for a 12 inch skinny one.  I get the 12 inch thick ones for 2.41 a piece on that website plus they have lots of other chews.

My favourite are smoked cow bones from the butcher.  It's usually 5-7 bucks for a good size bone (say about 12-14" long and 4" diameter), and they last a couple weeks...any independent butcher should have them.  You just have to make sure that if you get one with exposed marrow you don't let her take it on the carpet or furniture because they start to drip after a while.  But healthwise they're great, and they're much too big to worry about her chipping off sharp pieces or swallowing the whole thing!

I would go with the bully sticks, I haven't heard good things about greenies.

Nothing really last any amount of time around my house. I guess they obsess because they're afraid the other one will get it. Bully Sticks? Jewel can devour one in about 15 minutes (the big one).

The only thing that might stand a half of chance is a beef rib bone and they dissapear in a couple of days.

We don't even call them bones anymore, there called snacks!! LOL

I give my dogs cow hooves, they last for days.  My old dog with a sensitive stomach never gets sick from them.   All of my dogs are powerful chewers.

Zelda -- Steve likes the Dingo products or any other "pig skin" level of treat that is shaped in twists and ties just like rawhides but are digestable where rawhide really is not.

I also buy big smoked bones from the pet store that he adores and will gnaw on long after he's gotten all the good bits off.

Kongs are great too - can stuff them and freeze them and they have a popsicle for a few hours.

Pork Chomps! I swear by them! althought they don't last long they have no serious issues with them!!

Also, the pork ears are a good 10 minute treat for laith. If you want piece and quiet for a few minutes.  ha-ha

The hooves I have had MANY issues with. Even the most expensive/nothing added ones from local companies. Laith gets soo sick. I heard through the grapevine greenies can cause major issues in dobermans. He loved them but I stopped buying them.

I switched Gauge from rawhides to nylabones.  All the chew, none of the mess/digestion.  He also loves his Kong with either peanut butter or the kong spray cheese looking stuff.

nylabones last for you @tans? I bought the 13.00 size last week and he ate the ENTIRE thing while I was in the shower. In shock.

So far, they're the only thing besides the Kong products that do.  I even tried the bully sticks and a 6" one was gone in like 20 minutes.
