For those of you with younguns and wondering about exercise, running, jumping etc.. here's a good guidleline..

you should never let puppies jump, walk up/down stairs, over exercise or over train. Doing too much impact activity at a young age will cause serious issues later in life, or even at a young age as hip dysplasia and other orthopaedic conditions are rising in puppies!
Remember the puppy rule for every month increase activity by 5 minuets! For example an 8 week old puppy only needs 10 minuets physical activity a day - a 6 month old only needs 30 minuets a day of physical activity!!
*physical activity includes - going for a walk, training, playing fetch, running, playing with other dogs etc.

Enjoy your new puppy but remember you wouldn't make a 6 month old baby run a mile a day so don't make your puppy either!

Growth plates don't fully close til 18 months.. so as tempting as it is to run and play and romp.. be wise.. stay on soft surfaces and be careful with that baby. And oh yeah.. no socialization with others til all the shots are done..

My 13 week old Lilah has finally mastered how to get up on the couch by herself and now jumps off! I wondered if this was bad for her?

Thanks for the info. I took my Maddie for a fairly long walk the other day. She is now 15 weeks and about 28 lbs and I can tell you that 28 lbs get pretty darn heavy after several blocks. I didn't realize that walk was too long for her, but since she's my baby and let me know she was tired, I picked her up and lugged her home. lol

Pretty sure my arms are about 6 inches longer now, but it was worth it. Now I know to keep it much shorter for both our sakes.
