Hey everyone just curious about some information on if anyone has heard or even has had it done for their doberman is the surgical procedure to prevent bloat gastropexy. I was thinking about breeding my dobe, but there aren't really any other dobe's where I live so we decide to neuter him when he's a year and just wondering if I should this done too.  Thanks

Sry I should have proofed it before posting it's called prophylactic gastropexy..not sure if I should get it done. Really would appreciate some reviews if you have had it done with anyone's doberman. Thank you

I would not consider this, even if it has been identified in its blood line.

Sensible eating habits and proper diet is what I would focus on if there is a higher risk of it developing.

If siblings or parents have never suffered from it, then it is most certainly not necessary.

My friend with 4 rotties actually had her young female tacked during spay I would just be very conscious of eating time and watching exercise times etc. with food times......it's a horrible thing to have happen but most dogs go through life without any issues....

The only breed we have ever tacked is the Great Dane. It isn't generally as necessary of a procedure in Dobermans, although any deep chested dog is at some risk. Like mentioned in above posts sensible eating and being conscious of the time between eating and exersice are the key factors in prevention.
