After going to the park the other day Juneau came home with a relatively large gash on the inside flap of his ear. It is about 2" long and there was about a millimeter between each side. I was unable to take him to the vet that night, and since I worked Saturday and it was no longer bleeding I just treated it with Well Horse. Well Horse is what ultimately helped Juneau's botched tail docking heal. After speaking to a few people locally I'm not really sure that there is anything the vet can do as long as it is not infected. The gash does not go all the way through the ear at any point and Juneau doesn't seem bothered by it when I treat it, and other than a little head shaking occasionally he leaves it alone. A pretty large scab is forming now, and I don't know how normal that is. It seems very thick compared to the ear. There does not seem to be any inflammation and very little redness. What should I be looking out for to take him to the vet?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think you already know really but you're looking for any sign of redness, irritation, swelling or unusual heat. If your dog doesn't seem to be in pain and the scab looks ok personally I would leave it but any signs of your dog being unwell or the aforementioned I would go to the vet. Also if he seems to be in much pain from it  get down the vet as I'm sure you know but human painkillers aren't suitable. Feel better soon little big boy!
