Well, we were back at the vets today. Sophie was still having her irregular poo episodes, but what stopped me dead in my tracks this morning was the older kids bedroom pp pads, Diarrhea!!! I wasn't sure who, later on in the morning I found out. We took Sophie back this evening along with a few samples from the kids. We waited on the flotations, the vet came in and said they were clear. My heart sank, I knew that there had to be something, our older kids are NEVER sick. The nurse came in and said, she found 1 egg in a sample. It was coccidia, don't get me wrong, I didn't want any of them to be sick, but the thought of leaving again, with negative tests, and the littles sick too! I just thought, what is happening to our little family!! We are doing a 2 day treatment for everybody with ponazuril, and Sophie is getting flagyl for 5 days as well. Once again, please keep us in your prayers!!

That is nasty stuff and had a very distinctive foul odor. It has been a number of years, but I have had bouts of it. Now that you have smelled it, if they come down with it again, take them right in.

If you let your kids go outside, then wash the area down good. Also you may want to walk them in the front rather than run loose in the back. For years, I had one who would always test postive for hook worms, yet none of the others who were always with her never did.

You may want to cook some rice and mix in with their softened kibble to ease the stress on their digestive system for a few days.

Awww. prayers for your doggies to hurry and get over this.  Poor babies.  At least now you KNOW what you're dealing with and are treating it.  GET WELL SOON.

Rick & Paul, thank y'all so much for the advice and prayers. You know, Sophie's test still came up negative yesterday! I just felt like something was going on, but that was 3 flotations for her that were neg. The odor was obvious when the littles got it, but not with Sophie, so I didn't really know with her. I'm so grateful that Miss Annie, {our nurse}, found that egg! Dr. Whetstone said we were really lucky, most of the time, there can be hundreds of eggs. Keep those prayers comin', they are very appreciated!  Sophie & Angie

Katie, thank you SO much. I'm so blessed to have found y'all!! I talked to Sophie's breeder, and she had 2 littermates test positive for it after Sophie came home. I know God is looking over us and holding us too! I'm so ready for our babies to be well. It makes me sick, because we are clean freaks, and to think we brought this into our home. It could be worse though, and they have their meds now, Adam and I cleaned extra last night. We had decided before Sophie came home to have the carpet taken out in the den, it connects to the kitchen, laundry room, and one of our bathes. This is also the door that accesses the fenced in part of our yard that we just had done for Sophie. I told Adam, it would be so much cleaner if we had a mopable{it's a word!! BOL!] surface in all of those areas, thank The Lord for the fore sight of this! I'll feel calmer after we get all her shots, and can really start her social life and training. She weighed 16 lbs yesterday, and she looks gorgeous!! Her's some pics, she's 2 days from 9 weeks old.

Sorry to hear about your Sophia, but atleast you know what it is now and can treat her.  Coccidia can be everywhere, walls, floors, dishes, etc.   Older dogs can handle it but the pups have delicate immune sysytems.   Knowing that the breeder had a couple of other pups in the litter with it, she may as well let everyone know, that got a pup from her.  The coccidia doesn't always show up in a fecal, they can shed at different times.  Stress can bring it on.

But... you did good!!  You know when something just isn't right!  Sophia should firm up in no time!  She reminds me of my Obi-wan when he was a baby.  He's almost nine!  He had the prettiest blue eyes!!

Thank you so much Wendy, that means a lot!! I just knew, we are Mommies aren't we!! She's a doll bear, she'll get her 2nd booster shot on Wednesday. I'll be glad when we get through these shots so we can be out and about. I think I'm gonna go ahead 3 weeks after her 3rd booster, and let the vet give her a 4th parvo booster, and then her rabies. That will put her at 15 weeks old, we're gonna start a head start puppy class with her at 17 weeks. Then next she'll do S.T.A.R. puppy class, then later Manners Matter. here's a link to our training facility, it's in Chatt. TN., about 65 miles away. They are good though, we don't mind the drive, we used them for Loren. During this time she'll also start working with my Service Dog trainer Kelley Ireland. I'm so excited, I already see some of the keys she needs in SD training, she leans toward me, she's about 85% potty trained, so I know she's got the sharpness, and wants to please. Here's links to PDX, Chatt. training and Kelley's site, SD trainer.
