I have had both over the years, and the females are generally a little harder to house break, but they don't hike a leg to mark. They are a little easier to raise. You do need to make a decision early on whether to raise pups or not. If you do decide to keep her intact then you will have the twice yearly seasons to work through. If you don't have a way to isolate her during this time, you will be visited by all the interested males in the area.

Keeping her in the house of course solves this.

Greetings .Dabbles + Green  :+]
Thanks for the welcome and the info..i will be breeding her after the 2nd heat..the breeder says 2nd is good.. ?
I tried to post a photo but got a script error sooo will have to try again.
She is a HANDS full ...when awake..into everything ..the other part is she is juuuust about housebroken,,i have been taking her directly into fenced yard as soon as she..wakes up...after playing and1/2 hour after eating..only 1 accident after 1 wek here and now waits until in the yard to relieve herself...not bad for a 11 week old..smart but stubborn.
will post again ...in this forum ?
or maybe someone can suggest another 1  /
all for now

Ninety-Seven - keep in mind that a Dobe and most large dogs generally come into heat the first time at about 10 months of age (my Princess was just over 1 year old) and are the equivalent of a young teenage human. Their bodys are not ready at all. At their second heat they are the equivalent of an older teenager (17 to 18) and it is better but they are really not yet mature. A two year old dog on the other hand is the equivalent of a 21 year human and is full grown.

As your girl grows you will note the rapid physical growth but then from 1 year to 2 years you will note slower physical growth, but they will fill out and still gain weight, but not much more size. The mental maturity also comes in the second year when they become far more confident and secure.

In my years with Dobes, I only bred two females, and both were three years old when they had their first litter. If you intend to breed, I would not go much beyond 4 for the first litter as then they start to get set in their ways. Just as in humans, having babies is a job for the younger members of the group.

Photos - a quick primer. First open an account on a third party hosting site (I use Photobucket). Second upload the photos. If you use Photobucket they have just recently given members the ability to create separate albums to organize their photos. I moved almost all of my Dobe photos into a Dobe album and the move broke the links to all my photos on this site. I am now in the process of fixing them.

Third, with the reply box for Gentle Doberman open in a tab, click on a second tab and open Photobucket. (If Photobucket is already open in a tab, then open Gentle Doberman in a tab. Fourth, when the photo is on the site, if you move the cursor over the photo, four link options with codes in a box. When you click on a box with the code in it, the box turns color. The one you want is the bottom one with the label on the left saying "IMG Code" (for image code) and the coding in the box on the right says starts with IMG in square brackets. With the cursor on the box and the box active (colored) right click the mouse and in the short cut menu that opens, click on "copy". Here is an example of the boxes under a photo.

Fifth, then click on the GD tab and move your curse to the point where you want the photo. Then right click and in the shortcut menu that opens, click on "paste". The code that you saw on photobucket is pasted into the reply box. Click on Preview to see the photo. Until you preview or post you will see the code. Once the post is previewed, the photo (or image) will show up.
