Even after all of the information I've read on master breeders, I still don't know where to find them.  Did gentledobe ever finish it's breeder list?  I have emailed a few of the breeders on the DPCA list, however I'm wanted to ask if anyone on here had any breeder references they can give me from experience.

Hi!  Here's my two bits...

It stinks trying to find a good breeder - especially since it's rare that you find one in your own city (I lucked out).  Don't know who to trust, etc.

Grendelspop and I both have pups from Steve Parsons of Family Dobes www.familydobes.com

He's out of Phoenix, AZ (as am I).  Fantastic dogs, seriously.  He's a good friend of mine and I know every single one of his dogs personally.  He ships worldwide & if you've never done it, it's not nearly as traumatic as some people might think.  Give him a call, he's a super nice guy.  Or, feel free to ask me anything, I'll be more than happy to vouch as a reference.

This is a recent picture of my little girl, she's about 6 months

And this is her (left) with her Momma Ruby and Sister (littermate) Jinx

Good luck searching!

That's a very good looking red girl. I have a weakness for the reds, and my best two males have both been red. I was fortunate enough to have the first for almost 12 years. My current baby (he now weighs 124 pounds, down from 146 after diagnosing thyroid condition and medication for it) will be 6 in March.

The dark mahogany color really looks good. I will keep them in mind as in the next year or so, I will probably be looking to bring in a new dobe.

I think it is very important for any person wanting to buy a Doberman to research first. They are not the dog for everyone. The DPCA has excellent articles to read on everything you would need to know about Dobermans from REPUTABLE people. Every perspective buyer should study what health problems effect this breed and know what health testing needs to be done and why. The DPCA breeder referral program is a great place to start in finding puppies. You may not find one in your particular area but they may know of someone else in your area. It takes time to find the right breeder and usually people give in way to fast to buy a less to be desired dog because they feel sorry for it or don't know enough about it. Expect a good breeder to ask as many questions of you as you do of them. If they aren't asking questions and have no regard where there dogs are sold than walk away. If they say that there is not a need to do health testing or there particular LINE hasn't had any problems then RUN the other way. The answer that our dogs are healthy or the puppies have just been checked by a vet IS NOT CONSIDERED health testing. Don't give up your research will help you find a good breeder. Pay attention to details. http://www.rnddobeman.net

I agree, as you have to stay a step ahead of them. However, even a less than optimal Dobie is in my mind a better dog than 99% of the rest. I have had Dobies for 25+ years and raised a few litters myself, but no longer. I currently have two, my red six year old male (Red) who is over sized, but I knew he would be when I picked him up as both parents were as well. While I will never breed him (thyroid condition as well) he has been a joy to me over the past 6 years I have had him. He is smart as a whip and of course is my red shadow. A recent addition is a red female pup (Princess) who is currently almost 17 weeks old, and is doing just marvelously. I got her from horseeatingweeds and have been very pleased with the quality of her breeding. There are photos in other threads of Drako and Jewell and the previous litter as well as the one just past. They believe like I do, in limiting the dames to two litters.

The staff at the vet's all praised Princess from day one, and her ears have been standing nicely with only two weeks of posting after surgery. Here are a few pictures:

This was the first time I had to two outside together. Princess was 10 weeks old and Red looks like he would just as soon I took her back where she came from.

Here she is at 14 weeks with her ears standing already. So far she is off to the best start of any Dobie I have ever had. Her home raising shows as does her early socialization. She traveled well at the age of 9 weeks and we are talking about 900 miles over a day and a half including a night in the motel without crying. She walked on the leash to do her business from the beginning.

Yeh, she was about to jump up and nip him on his throat. They get along, but I have to supervise them. Red has discovered his "inner puppy" since she joined the household. He looks ridiculous carrying a puppy squeaky toy in his mouth. If I don't watch them, their "play" escalates until I either put a stop to it for a while, or put them outside for a while. Thank goodness for South Georgia warm weather. It's either that or they will tear up the house. Nothing like two Dobies racing through the house! At night and when I'm gone they have their crates (his is 30" x 48" wire and hers is a recycled 30" x 15" plastic). Greatest thing to keep peace in the house.
