SearchTrying to add an avatar
I have taken some time to play with this site this afternoon. First I learned I could change my name to more accurately reflect myself for this group. No more WK4P on here. I'm now Freyja's Dad.
My daughter finally took some pics of Freyja for me today and I was going to add one as an avatar. However I seem to be unable to get a pic to upload. I have tried uploading from my computer and using the url from photobucket. Any suggestions?
Once I learn how to add an avatar I'll try to do a short writeup about Freyja (like I've written anything short in my life) and add a couple of pics of the goddess.
I have tried that several times. I have an avatar box now but I see no pic in it, only a box with an X in the upper left hand corner. I have to use high contrast settings to see my computer screen so I wonder if you guys see Freyja in my avatar or is it blank? I see everyone else's avatars just fine.

Just a thought have you looked in look and layout as theres a box there that needs to be ticked for avatar. I see on my own profile that 'I have my own pic' is also ticked. Sorry not much help as it is 02.30 in the morning here and im working the graveyard shift.

The first thing to consider is the size. If the picture is too large, the system may not handle it. I am a Member Moderator on another forum and their limit is 78x78 pixels. Now if you get close, their system can downsize it, but not if it a full size pic say 3000x2000 pixels or so. My current Avatar is 78x79 on photo bucket.
I use the Snipping tool in either Vista or Windows 7 to crop out a section of a photo. For example, compare my Avatar with the original:
Go into your profile and on the left side is a menu of options. Click on "Forum Profile Information" on the left side. There are three ways to post a pic, and used the second on and simply added the Photobucket direct link code (second option in the link menu), in the same manner that you use for a photo. Mouse over the image with your cursor and a small 4 line menu opens. You want the second one. To post a photo on the site, the easiest way is to use the last link. By clicking on the link it will highlight in color. You then right click and then click on copy. Go to the tab with the GentleDoberman page, and put your cursor where you want to add the link, right click and then click on paste. It seems cumbersome the first time, but after that it's becomes easier. Here is what the menu looks like:
BTW - the photo is of Windy whom I got at the age of 4 months in 1982 and lost on Jan. 2, 1989 to cancer. The sample is of Princess when she was 14 weeks old and I had just removed the posts from her ears.

Sorry I've been off the board for a couple of days. There was a radio contest I wanted to play in this weekend.
I've tried to resize the pic in photobucket, to their "tiny" size. I've also copied the resized pic to my harddrive and tried to upload it without success. Here is the url that is typed into the profile right now:

You have to use a URL to the specific image. That URL points to your whole album.
Put this in:

Thanks so much, that seems to have corrected the problem. Now I have an avatar of Freyja, whooooo.
I've never messed with photobucket and some of the things on there are hard for me to see. Since the link I was trying was ending in .jpg I thought I was ok, obviously not. Anyway the goddess is now up and I'm happy. Thanks again for everyone's assistance.
Next I'll tackle writing an intoduction to Freyja and posting a pic or two in the story.
I apologize, I should have pointed out that you should use the direct link URL, you used the e-mail URL. The direct link has the "i" at the start of the code (i778), the e-mail has the "s" at the start (s778).
Awesome looking Dobermans! Here is a freeware program I have been using for years. Cropping is as easy as dragging your mouse or choose from a custom size.

I use both and more for imaging.
Make an account on photobucket.com (it's free). Upload your pic to the account then copy the http address. On your G.D. profile paste the address in the box with http in it. Thats how I did mine. Hope this helps.
