Board and Train
Has anyone ever heard of the Darn Far Ranch in Illinois? They offer a board and train that I am interested in.
Thanks for anyone who might have information of this facility.
That would be great, but I don't know if it is that accessible. Maybe you could ask around to see what people have heard.
I will send you a PM with some other questions.
Thanks for your assist.
I can always call before I leave, also I ahve never used a PM on this forum before so if I dotn reply it is because I cant find it.
I sent you an email on this site....check to see if you can find it.
In general, I don't like board and train facilities, because it is MORE important for the owner to understand what to do than the dog. Dobermans are a piece of cake to train, if YOU have the right tools handy. If you don't, your smart doberman will know it. The best trained dog in the world will not be that good if you don't know how to handle him. I would prefer to be a part of the entire process, and actually learn what happened. There's no way you can learn that in a few hours upon pickup... Do they say what training methods they use? I didn't see anything.
I can't say if these people are good or bad, I have no idea, so don't think i'm knocking them at all. I just don't like to send a dog away for training.
Does the email contact show up in the lower left hand corner, so people can respond to me privately?
I got your e-mail and will reply, I found a youtube area for that ranch you can check out here: http://www.youtube.com/user/darnfar
Thanks, Rowan.
@KevinK
I am looking for a board and train for some very specific training, prefer not to send my dog out, but want to make sure it is a top notch training..
Nice, what kind of training are you doing?
This Dobe will (hopefully) be a replacement for the Service Dog I currently have. My SD is a bicolor GSD, from working lines.
@Ronan...
Just saw that I misspelled your name, sorry.
I have a friend who had a good experience with a board and train facility, but it was for bird retrieval so not too complex for him to learn the commands and reinforcement techniques. I agree, however, that it is terribly important for the owner to know what to do, and training together builds a strong bond and synergy between you and your dog.
My pup will be going to the Board/Train next week.
Training going very good so far, and I am pleased with the results. Will update when complete.
Please keep us posted! we are highly considering sending our girl for a two week stint - just would love to hear some feedback from some others...

Wislady,
I have never heard of the place before but thankfuly I do live close by to it. I can hop in my car and take the fur babies on a ride and check the place out and be home in a little more than an hour. Let me know if you want me to scope the place out.
