(another one I need to print out and place on the fridge...)

I must not lose my temper.

I must not strangle my puppy.

I must not scream and shout at my puppy in frustration.

I must not tan his behind for constantly running away from me (even if I 'threaten' to in the sweetest, kindest tones once I catch him...  >.>).

I must not strangle my puppy.

I must not hog-tie my puppy in a vain attempt to trim his toenails.

I must not keep my puppy on a two-inch leash just because he didn't come last time I called his name, or otherwise display flawless manners.

I must not strangle my puppy.

I must not toss him in his crate/the back yard to cry because he tore up a _____.

I must not interfere the moment my puppy plays what I consider a fraction too rough with his playmates.  Learning to play nice is why I want playmates for him and they will teach him in puppy ways.

I must not strangle my puppy.

I'm sure there are plenty more, feel free to add on...

(Disclaimer!  No, I would never ever do any of those things.  This is just an exercise in humor/venting of frustration.)

That was pretty funny!  I still feel that way with Harley 2 years later.

Good Luck,

Bella needs claw trimming and ear cleaning manners! Luckily her claws get all worn down pretty well, and her ears so far are naturally quite clean. We bought a bunch of the Zymox Enzyme ear stuff but its impossible to use because she is so powerful and squirmy and hates to be restrained.

How do you get over this?

One time, when Ellie was a puppy, she ate a hole through the crouch of my $300 designer jeans.  I was SO mad!  She was lucky I discovered it while I was at work going to the bathroom (I looked down).  I called my husband furious and begged him to bring me a whole pair of jeans to work.

I think that was the last time I bought designer jeans.  Le sigh...

Axel has a thing for shoes. Oh wait, not shoes as in two but shoe as in one and its always the left shoe. I have a shoe tree on the back of my door and I dont know how or why he gets into it and just takes my left shoes. He doesnt chew them (thank God) but he is getting better at hiding them. Hes closing in on a year old so Im hoping this shall pass too.

This is why I love this forum. a couple weeks ago I was thinking about a girl friend for Tony.  Not a puppy, that wouldn't be fair, but I found a greaat dog, abot 10 minutes away.  She is less than a year, spade, ears and tail, and she come from champion  lines.  I looked hard at her on the internet, did not call the breeder.  Then I come her, read puppy stories and come to my senses.  So thank you all,Koko and company, you have saved me from a puppy.

Oh, C'mon, Chris!  Think of all the stories you'd be able to contribute to this thread!

I would totally go for it, Chris!  Honestly, with all the blows you and Tony have had, I think it would be very healthy to have something to focus on and distract you - both of you!  And if she's around a year, you'll skip the "worst" of the puppy issues, while still getting the full benefit of the puppy's boundless energy to distract you.

I may make posts like this to vent my frustration without yelling or otherwise being unpleasant and unfair to Koko, but I would not trade one minute of it...  well, okay, the three hours I spent cleaning his crate a couple of weeks ago, I might trade that...  but I am loving every other minute of it, even when it has me wanting to scream.  It's life.  Raw and boisterous and joyful life.

Before we got Koko, I was in such a bad place mentally that there were days I would just lay in bed almost till lunchtime, because I just couldn't find the will to get up.  That just isn't an option, when Koko is pacing in his crate whining cause he needs to go pee.  Sure it's not a quick fix, I am still not in the best place...  but, when my will and drive lapse, his drive, his needs, pick up the slack.

to all my friends...Kim and Tanna included  NO PUPPY!!!  You know most of my situation, I live alone, I work half an hour from home, full time, so the dogs would be alone.  It wasn't ideal for Tory and Tony, but would be very unfair to a puppy, especially this dog since  she lives with her original family on a horse ranch.  The other thing, and this is mostly my decision, I am selling the house with 100 acres, and moving into "town", to the home where I raise my family. Small 3  bedroom ranch, small yard, but managable for me.  It's 5 minutes from work, so lunch with Tony.  But, just know, eventually there will be another puppy for me, and I will come to all of you for advice (hopefully not for another 5 years, ugh, I'm too old for that!)  Oh, and I was thinking of a kitten, but my little siamese turn 15 next weekend... Cinco de Mayo, so no kitten either.

Thanks you guys, gave me a minutes pause

Sounds like you've thought it through :)  I just didn't want you to pass up on it because of puppy "war stories"  hehe...
