Hi All; Meet "Sasha"..  She is my first dobie and is 4th mths old.  She is enrolled in Level I training classes.  She is very smart and appears to learn commands quickly.  She has learned Come/Sit/Stay/Off/LeaveIt and will respond to these very well when she is not pre-occupied with something else like playing....   She knows what Off/LeaveIt means.  However, Off in the kitchen seems to have no bearing and LeaveIt when food/treats are involved she acts like no rules for her...  Can anyone tell me if this is normal for dobies and/or if there is something I could try to make her repsond to commands as she needs to?  Thanks!!

Thats great you have her in a class. Remember she is just a baby and her attention span is very short - 5 minutes or less.... Set her up for success. Make a big deal of it with a ready  nice reward= your happiness//, treat or toy playtime// when she succeeds. Always stop the training session after a success.

patience and practice - just keep being consistent, and she will get it eventually..... she is still a baby.

Thank you for advice. ..   it seems patience & consistency are the key to this.... maybe what I'm missing is the level of excitement when she has done a good command.   I praise her.. but maybe she needs more..  I definitely will try that. ..   she loves school. ..

Training never stops. Even when they get older you need to train everyday. Consistency is the key to success, but she's a baby and you can't expect her to be perfect yet, even my boy who has daily training goofs up sometimes. Like I said training is never done :)

BTW AresMyDobie, I was looking at Mr. Ares gallery & he's a handsome fella!  Batface wins hands down. ....  Goal Post cracked me up.....  all were great pics..   I'm new to DobieWorld so I'm learning as I go...    I have to ask....  why were his paws taped?

Rubie has a mat in the kitchen, where she sits, out of the way and is rewarded either verbally or with a TASTE of whatever we're cooking (raw veggies, meat, etc.). Her command for it is 'mat,' appropriately enough! It also works when someone comes to the door to prevent her from going bonkers. You gotta make her work for her treats, even if it's because she's in her 'spot' and being calm. Nothing in life is free!

Thank you so much for the compliment :) he's my baby :) his paws were taped grime his dewclaw removal. I didn't want to chance him possibly ripping them out cuz well dobes are highly alert and can jump up real fast and it can cause a real issue, so I had them removed :) he didn't even know hahaha the surgeon who did it was the same one who did is ears and you can't even tell lol :)
