Hello good people.

so my boy is 11 months now in a couple of days, and goodness me is he being a teen.

so here are a few things I wondered if I could get some feedback on, I do realize I should probably have made several posts in different forums, as they vary in topic but I didnt... he he

1. Still very excited when people come over, especially my old dad for whom Gogh seems to have no respect. he is ne never angry or anything, but does play bark a bit to see if people want to play... I try to correct but often just give him a five minute crate time out... can I expect him to grow out of this a bit?

2. I use the command "Place" to get him to come stand next to me on my left side: now the problem is I have been using this when we have been training on loose leash walking and then he responds buy either backing up if he is in front, or doing a uturn on my left side if he has space... now that we have started practicing a little off leash command I would rather have him come through my right side to sit on my left, cmoing from behind my back... any ideas how to aproach it? or perhaps it is rather unimportant from which side he comes? its just I see people on shows and the dog always comes to place in the same way...

3.Scar tissue.. he has a couple of places, one on his head and one on the tip of his ear, where he has had a scratch from running into variouse things, lol, but especially the one on the ear does not seem to have hair growing back on it... thoughts??

kind regards

For the excitement I would put him on lead and prong and tell people to ignore him completely till he settles down and is obviously relaxed. No touch no talk no eye contact learned that one from the dog whisperer. I never say anything to my dogs when I leave or when I come back I don't want to make a big deal out of it. Eventually you'll be able to take the lead the and stuff but still have everyone including yourself ignore when you come home.

For the "place" if you want to teach him to come around from the right you'll have to show him what you want. Use a short leash and when you say it lead him around your right to your left. I hope I'm making sense. Ares it depends on what we are doing but he will to get there quicker will do a jump and butt spin to get to his mark faster. If he's coming from a recall he will sit in front of me then I'll give him his heal command and he will go from the right to the left but that was shown to him. I don't know if I'm making sense. Lol I've learned these kind of things from my schutzhund trainer. Maybe @gunny will chime and be able to better explain this since he's been doing this much longer then I have. I have only been in schutzhund since I've had Ares I personally only trained in obedience.

For the scars I would put vitamin e oil on them it might help I use it daily on my boys elbows and hocks to keep the caluses at bay. Does he have floppy ears and trample through brush ?

For the paws, Bag Balm will help heal minor cracks in paws and Musher's Miracle will help prevent new damage to paws. So in an ideal world applying Musher's Miracle before going into rough/dry/salty terrain and Bag Balm post excursion would keep paw pads in good shape.
