These terrible posts
Don't know about any of you, but I think it's a shame that someone is using this family based and precious web site to post such awful things.
I have reported it to our administrator and even wrote directly to Twenmeway.
thoughts anyone?
I knew I could count on you.. and lets add that to the "options."
How is Q doing with his food?
:) Heh not too bad at the moment, everybody keeps telling me what a big dog he is...love is blind as they say. ;D I think that im comparing Q to others but i see there are two types of Dobe The euro and the american. One appears to be more musclar, one more slender. Im just not sure which is which ;D Q appears more slender to me.
Q's papers state that his sire was canadian and dam austraiian :)
I have no clue where Sofia came from. I've asked her "who's your daddy?" and she just blinks and yawns at me.
I read that you said Q hummms in the mornings.. I'll bet that's what we call Sofie's purr. She acts a great deal like a cat at times with the constant bathing, and stretching I wonder if there were kitties at her former home. and how do you get those emoticons to appear??
:) Heh i love watching the yoga stetches too. Lady Kate the emotes are just above the text box...all those little smily faces 8) :o :( >:( ;D :D ;) :)
Just click on one :)
Ps its a definate hum ;D
I know.. I've seen the smileys.. just can't get them to come on down ::) see... that's what I get.
Heeeeyyy It worked!! Wow.. I can do smileys :o and I bet it blinks! doesnt' show up til I post.. this is cool
:) Now all you have to do is get your photo up ;D
I'm sure Xander would love to get his pearly white puppy teeth into the troll posters. They are really mucking up the board with their filth.
Down with them, I say!! "Sick 'em, boy!"
;D
Wow, I hadn't even looked at the posts until now. Just what I think of when I look at my dog...porn, prescription meds, mp3's and playstation games (not necessarily in that order).... I think it's time to install CAPTCHA on the site for posting of any sort, also might consider moderated user creation.
....and band this mofo. Probably just a bot though. Unless you can find 'im. In which case I'll bite if my dog doesn't.
R. Marc
A bot?
Im losing my rag at a robot? :)
How is your baby Marc after her op? Is she running yet?
Sorry everyone. We got a spam attack from a poorly written spam bot. Good grief though... I might not be able to eat for the rest of the week. :-X
How it works is, Tweetman or whatever his name was, is actually just a small computer program. It's probably running on some innocent person's server somewhere. But what it does is searches the web for forums. Then it registers its self like a person. Usually a properly written one will only put up one message every day or so. But this idiot must have gotten his at a discount.
As many of you know I'm working on a new system for us here. The current one is nice, but I have bigger plans that this system isn't build for. My main weapon against spam right now is just waiting for them to strike - then I add their IP address (the name each of our computers has) to a list that aren't allowed on the site.
So the best thing to do when you come across one of these horrible things is report it so I can erase it and ban the member. Don't reply to it. It's just a stupid program and then I have to erase your post too. ;)
Oh - and for the love of Dobermans Do not click on anything in a spam post!!!!! It's almost certainly loaded with viruses and malware that will load onto your computer. That goes for any pornography, gambling, or otherwise unscrupulous website, email spam, or ad.
The new system will be more manageable and hopefully faster. I hadn't logged on all day until this evening to find this mess - I apologize for that. But the new system will be better. It will cut down on the spam that gets in and make it much easier for us to get rid of. This system is actually quite old, a good generation of two behind in web years. Can't believe it's been so long already.
Thank you so much for taking care of this.
There are so many generous people on this site who never fail to have a kind word of encouragement and fellowship for all the doberman lovers who participate.
We certainly appreciate your help.
Lady Kate and Sofia
;D Thank you webby. You are The Terminator ;D
I guess while I was away I missed all the fun. Spam bots are the bane of the forums, but something most have learned to deal with. Actually, this forum has not had very many because it is a narrowly focused discussion forum. Although we love our Dobes and love to talk about them and share info and stories, we are still a fairly small group.
As a Member Moderator on the PC World general interest forum (there are 4 of us) it is a constant battle. I signed on one morning and noticed a spam poster and started the process of documenting and deleting his posts. I then discovered he was posting them faster than I could remove them, so I just started to delete them. In the end, I had deleted 58 identical posts, in some cases two per thread. That forum has about 10 time the users we do here and the Admin is an employee of the magazine so has to have volunteer help. We went to a new software this past August and the member moderators still cannot ban a member, but now we can put one on restriction so their posts won't appear until approved. Thus the regular members don't see the posts and when the Admin comes into work on Monday (West Coast) the first thing he has to do is ban the spammers we have listed. We have a Moderator only post called Spammers to Ban in which we only post the link to the profile so it makes the Admin's job easier. Click on the link, ban, next. Some forums have a probationary period where a new members posts don't appear until approved, until the member gets about 50 or so posts, then they appear immediately.
Alpha Admin does a good job and when I have reported a spam post, most are about selling medications, they seem to disappear rather quickly. But then he is one of us and doing this as a labor of love. Like a good Dobe he always seems to be patrolling out of sight ready to pounce on the intruder, but needs us to act like one of my noisy Schnauzers to alert him to the intruder so he can deal with it quicker.
Well said Richard, and welcome back.. Just like Red and Princess ( or now HRM) we miss you when you go away.

I agree lady Kate...there's only one thing to do in a situation like this... and that's to set the dogs onto them :-\
