This is the only doberman I have right now. lol I guess this will show my passion for the breed. It is a Counted cross-stitch--not needlework; it is slightly harder and more detailed. And talk about black thread on black fabric!! This picture is about 12" X 19". I need to frame it; however I have been a bit lazy. The picture of it here is pinned to a poster board, along with other work I've done being shown at a craft fair. I was demonstrating how to do counted cross-stitch. This picture took me about 7 months to do, working on it almost for 8 hours a day.

Thank you.  You must be a physician then?  I am an ex-English teacher.  I went back to office work--not sure that I like that either (well at least where I am).  Now is not the time for a job change.

However, I have a little news.  I have about three different breeders from which to choose.  One out-priced himself with the terms of his contract for bitches.  I had met him at the show I had gone to.  He said I would show the bitch to championship and then he would pick the sire (understandably) and then when she was ready to whelp, he would take her back and keep the whole litter (I am not sure if it would be once or twice; my memory is a little foggy at times) and then I could have her back.  Then he said I could do whatever I wanted with her after that.  I think that is rather a steep price for a bitch--like paying 10X over for her.

I am being a little picky.  I want my dobe to have a great looking head.  I am partial to that.  I had met quite a few breeders at the show and was running to and fro meeting people I had been posting with on the web.  But then again, I have time.  I have been saving money each week by trying to stop smoking.  I could buy the dog now, but I would deplete my bank account.  I want this extra newly found free money to account for something--my next pup.  I find myself saving 80 to 100 dollars a week.  I want to save at least $7,000 before I get the pup.  I want everything in place--the yard fenced in all the way, toys, crate.  Lol, I even aready have the pooper scooper and two cloth dog toys which I won in the raffle at the dog show.  Now, all I need is the dog to match the ensemble.  I also want to make sure that I have the money in place for all the shots and any contingencies.

Beautiful picture. You know if you were able to do something like that in cross stitch that took a lot less time, there might be a market at some of the shows. Unfortunately, a 7 month project would probably not return what it is worth in your time.

I'm glad to hear that you are meeting and talking with different breeders. I saw your post on Marienburg lines. So who are the breeders that you have narrowed it down to? You must be excited to be narrowing it down to a few.  Having puppies back is quite common on a show contract. Were the other 2 breeders going to sell outright or did they also expect puppies back? My second pick show puppy from our Nov. litter will go on co-ownership with puppies back also. My contract states 2 puppies back. How was the show you went to, were you able to sit with an experienced Dobe person and go over the different dogs in the ring?
Good luck in your search it sounds as if you have gained a lot of information and you are fixed on the goal. What a wonderful way to reward yourself for not smoking, and a great way to save for it.

rgreen:  That is the woe of great cross-stitchers; there is hardly any way to make money out of it.  I have sold and sewn some really nice pictures that used, in addition to the regular cross-stitching floss, beads and metallic threads.  Each picture I've done, I generally increase my skills by learning specialty stitches and using new mediums.  And the money I make, what little it has been (haven't sold much, made many as presents) goes right back into my craft.  At least I have fun while doing it.  This is only the second picture I have made for myself.  Once in awhile I think I should keep some of my work.  Lol

RnDdobermans:  Hi!  I really didn't talk puppies with the breeders, I was scouting the looks of some of them.  I don't like the snipey looks of some of the dogs I had seen.  But I did guess who the judge was going to pick for BOS and that was Kalora's Eragon, not his show name, I think--Dragonrider was in part of the show name.  I could look it up, but I am too lazy.  lol  It was a long week at work.  I am thinking about her.  I wouldn't mind a pup by him--he has a very nice head and a great topline.  Estelle was very busy and did spare me a little time regarding joining the DPCA.  It was only later that I heard she had puppies with her--missed seeing them.  What I would like to tell about my dealings with some of the breeders should be PM'd.  I may be mistaken in some of my opinions and wouldn't want to disparage anyone wrongly or publicly.  And I might hurt someone by not mentioning I would like a pup from them.

But, other than that I loved the show.  I picked up a few pointers from Kelly, a professional handler and spoke to another handler--not sure of her name.  My camera's battery had to die out during the BOB.  I was torn constantly by what was going on in the other ring.  I watched a few obedience trials and saw dogs scenting.  I really was too much all over the place and got many, greatly welcomed and desired, dober kisses.  I was in heaven!!!
