Male Marking in doors ... Any one have Males who Do NOT do this?
I read on one of the Doberman Forums that Males Mark inside the house. That was something i wanted to avoid and when we got our last dogs, I purchased Females because of that. It didn't didn't cross my mind when buying my male Puppy and my husband and I would NOT put up with having a Dog that pees in the house. I refuse to use a device to keep the urine from getting on my stuff, jsut to allow him to do this behavior .
I am hoping there are those who have Male dogs that "behave" themselves in the house, to give me some hope this might not happen. And so I don't automaticllu think it's destined that it will. Thanks
If by device you mean the belly-band or wrap, that does not prevent the urine from getting on stuff, it prevents them from actually going, unless they really, really have to. As Glengate says, dilligence is imperative. You will have far better luck if Buddy is a solo dog with no intact males or females around you will have a better chance of success.
I would definitely invest in a crate and crate train Buddy for when you are gone and over-night during his growing period. I am fairly successful with Red, even though he shares the house with an intact female and other (non-Dobe) males. Before Princess went into her first heat, I did have Red neutered as they are constant companions, and I did not want to have to board one of them. He is less tempted now as a result as well.
Thank you for the response. Buddy is 16 weeks. I've had him since he was 13 weeks. He has a Crate for when I can't supervise him directly. He gets gaten in the kitchen when I supervise him,but not directly (like cooking ,eating, on laptop,etc..). If he is in the living room un-leashed (not leashed to me) , I make sure he goes outside potty every 30-60 minutes and I watch him every second ! (yes a LOT of work, LOL) . He has had only 3 pee pee accidents on the carpet in the 3weeks we've had him,and 3 in the kitchen, and one poopee accident in the kitchen (my fault) .
I have an intact female , because she is a 3lb chihuahua and is such a finicky eater that her ribs show a little , and so i think she's a tad under weight and my reason for being too scared to get her fixed (SO tiny) . I want to get her fixed, but need to do a blood test to see if she can even handle the anesthesia first. She actually is finishing up a heat cycle right now. SHe started it when we first got the puppy. Maybe he'll think that smell is normal??
He still pees like a girl dog :)
But he does sometimes pee , and then kick the grass behind him. I imagine this is a territorial thing? Like marking ? There are female dogs just in the circle of 5 houses beside me,in my culdisac ! about 6-7 different ones. I have no idea which ones are fixed or not. Every one keeps them outside behind chain link fences : ( . And they are crazy (not mean though) and always barking and carrying on. I imagine they are not fixed because the owners are already not very responsible by just leaving them outside all day long in their back yards and do nothing with their dogs as for obedience training.
Luckely we don't own this house. But we can't afford to move until next year, when Buddy will be one year old.
I have 2 males and the dad does the grass thing as well it is a marking. Neither of my males have ever marked in the house. Buddy is still a baby and will pee like a girl till almost one that is what my one male did. Now my baby male always pees like a girl cuz he is fixed, and when mom went into heat he couldn't smell her either so he didn't understand what dad was doin.
Hi Buddy's owner, I witnessed my dog do this at around the ten month stage and before that he had never peed in the house and is in fact a very clean dog.
To my knowledge he has only ever done it twice. I made such a halibaloo over it that i think 'he got it' I watched him constantly after that...even if he was only putting his head down to sniff at something...i would give him a warning...'i'm watching you' lol funny how they look so guilty even when they are innocent.

I think that a number of intact males try it, which is why it's so important to be diligent enough to catch them the first time and make quite an impression that it's unacceptable. They aren't so likely to repeat it when they get caught and immediately corrected the first time.
