Update on my Father In Law
Surgery was a HUGE success!!!
The initial diagnosis was that he had a tumor in his kidney, and a second one on his adrenal gland, this was going to result in not just removing the kidney but also the adrenal gland. Turns out, once he was in surgery, they discovered that the second tumor was actually within the kidney, and because of the size of it, the adrenal gland had been pushed out of position and that's why they thought that the gland was affected and that the cancer had spread. This is incredible news and makes his prognosis so much better.
He is in the ICU tonight, mostly because the medications that he's on for pain etc. require a specialized pump that isn't used on the wards outside of the ICU, hopefully he'll be moved tomorrow at some point to a regular ward. I know that he's in great hands tonight as his nurse is a childhood friend of Luke's.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, they were heard and assisted the surgeons in the OR today.

That is great news! You must be so relieved...how comforting to have a friend of the family as his nurse too. Prayers for a full and speedy recovery!
Thank you for letting us know. A lot of us were really concerned and now we can breathe easier
Excellent news! so happy for you and for him..:)
Yay!! I'm so glad the surgery was a success! That is awesome news indeed! I will continue to pray for a smooth, speedy recovery. Please keep us posted :)
Thanks everyone, and Kate your message yesterday was greatly appreciated.
Went to see him this morning, he's still in the ICU as they had to insert and NG tube last night to relieve the pressure in his belly from his bowel, it's irritated from the surgery and not working quite yet and causing a lot of bloating.
He is still in quite a high level of discomfort, having a bad back and being forced to lay on it for the last 30 or so hours is taking it's toll on him, as well as having the epidural in place for pain management is bothering him as well.
I will keep you updated as his recovery progresses.
My prayers are with you and your family, as one who has gone through this in the past it can be very stressful and overwhelming. Hope he continues to get better and take care of yourself as well.
Cynthia
My prayers are still with you. Praying for a speedy recovery and no further problems.
Today was another milestone, they had him up and sitting in a chair, as well as eating a clear liquids diet of hospital jello and broth.
It is amazing how quickly they get them up and moving, and yum hospital jello :) Our thoughts are with you, please keep us posted.
