First Heat
How do you know if a female has already had puppies? I just bought a 1 year old female. The guy said she hadn't had puppies and she just had her first heat. My problem is, her boobs are sagging and it looks like she is lactating. Can someone please let me know if this is normal?
Idk how long ago she was in heat? How can you tell?
The person I got her from was going to put her down is someone didn't take her. So I did and I asked if she has been bred but he said no. He is not a breeder and she came with no papers. I didn't complain cause she is so beautiful that I didn't want her to go to the shelter here. I took her and she is very calm and good with my kids!
Please take her to a reputable vet.. He will be able to give you more information re: her condition. New dogs should be checked out any way and probably inoculated as well as it doesn't sound like her original owner cared for this lovely girl. Why were they going to put her down instead of finding a rescue organization?

sounds as if the person you got her from is a looser. What was his excuse for wanting to put her down? I would definitly have her checked by a vet, she needs that anyway as LadyKate said. Thank goodness you took her, she will be forever thankful.
I used the wrong words, they weren't going to put her down, they were going to send her to the pound! Which here where I live, they might as well put her down. There aren't any doberman rescue shelters here. I am going to take her to the vet next week, that's the earliest they would see her! I don't see anything wrong with her but I am not a vet either. Lol! She is still adjusting to the move so she is a little shy around us but with my red (Diablo) she is very playful! So I think she is just fine but I'm going to take her anyway! Just to be safe!
Cmalmanza - welcome to the forums and thank you for giving a wonderful dog a good home. I am not at all surprised that she is a little shy. Changing humans can be stressful for any dog. Young Dobies around one year of age are not fully comfortable with strangers, just as young teenagers are not all that comfortable around strange adults. At this point, you are still an unknown to her. She will warm up, and when she gets her full maturity at about two, she should be more comfortable with strangers, and of course by then you will no longer be an unknown to her.
When I made a trip to Texas to spend Christmas with very good friends, I took Princess (13 months at the time) with me. My friends are dog people, so she was welcomed. For the first 24 hours I had never seen her so skittish as she jumped at every noise. Fortunately, the guest room is large, and Princess had her crate in there, so she had a comfortable safe haven to retreat to. After several days, she was bossing the home dogs around and was hitting up all the members of the family for pets. She had warmed up to them and wrapped them around her little toe.

Some dogs go through a false pregnancy, you will hear of stories of the dogs acting like they are caring for pups during this time. My Paris nipples were huge even before she had puppies. Everyone used to ask me if she had been bred before. I was always appalled because she was so young, I knew she hadn't been bred I bred her litter and had her since birth.
If she came from a less then desirable breeder then you may want to find out if she is pregnant or not (lets hope not and give him the befefit of the doubt), just to make sure. How long ago had she been in heat?
