I recently bought Sage a toy that just maybe will last him awhile. These toys are rated 1-10 with 10 being the most durable. In the pic here is T-Rex [7], which Sage just loves. Anyway, just though I'd share with ya'll a good product for those of you with a Dobe puppy.

Thanks I'm always looking for good new toys for the kids.

Yes, well as we all know, Dobes are classed as problem chewers. They seem to have more than their share of sharp teeth, and very strong jaws. Consequently, nothing much lasts very long. Princess had developed the habit of chewing on the rim of Red's food bowl. I know have to put it up, as the edge is all nicked up. It looks like it has been run over a table saw several time. Red does not seem to mind, it the kibble he concerned with.

Q really looks good. I note that you also do not keep a collar on him in the house, but the collar ring shows. Mine never have a collar on in the house as I once had a Dobe get the tags caught in the door latch. Fortunately I was home and heard him. My vet also removes the collars and hands them back to me when I board them for the same reason. They use the looped rope to handle the dogs.

Actually, we have started taking off Sage's collar when he is in the house, too, even though pic indicated otherwise. He has several dog tags and can be rather loud inside the house when Sage is playing.

BTW, have you considered using a stainless steel feeding bowl?

Rgreen  :) I do take it off now when Q is in the house...especially as he is in the ocean every day. Did I read somewhere that you lost a dog due to having a collar on?
I also think that Q has finished growing...no weight gain over the last 3 weeks.

I have incresed his feed, but i see that he leaves some now in his bowl.
SoldierRN. My stainless steel bowls did have a rubber trim around them but they have long gone :)

That is a fantastic photo of Q. Yes, he is quite a handsome fella.

I did not lose one, I almost lost one. Another 60 seconds and he probably would not have come back. He was actually outside in the yard and got the collar tangled with the bottom of the fence.

Princess and Red share a stainless water bowl. Princess has a 10oz water cup and 20oz food cup on the inside of her crate. Red has neither. He has always had his food and water outside of his crate. I started Princess with it inside as she was eating puppy food and Red is on a restricted diet. This morning I fed the two Dobies and put the Schnauzers out. I then put their food in their food bowls attached to the doors of their crates and left the doors open. I wasn't paying attention and Red disappeared.

When I realized he was not in the room with me and the door was open I realized what was happening. I went in the other room and got there just as Red finished off the last of the kibble in the three Schnauzer crates. His normal ration is 4 cups, today he scarffed down over 6! But his weight really has come down with the thyroid pills and restricting his intake.

:) Thank you I have so enjoyed the last couple of months with him and he is such a big softie really.
I will make sure the collar is off all the time now apart from when we are out for walks. Both Red and Princess look gorgous in your latest pic.  :)

I don't think there's any real risk in the house. Baron was just trying to dig out and when he went under the fence he go the ring with his tag hung. Then he fought it and twisted around which choked him. It was actually my then large Dobe female Gretyl who was barking non stop that alerted me. She was barking incessantly which she had never done before. Most Dobes are actually fairly quiet and she was normally very quiet. In fact it took me a few minutes to realize it was coming from my back yard and not from across the road.

I keep the collars off in the house so there is normally no "collar ring". If they go outside but are confined inside the fence, no collars. But, if I take them out back to run or go to the vet or somewhere, then the collars go on.

I hate taking over the thread that was about toys. I have to tell you of a longtime Great Dane breeder that I personally know that lost one of her dogs when they were playing in the house in front of her and one of the dogs teeth got stuck in the others collar. It was so stuck after trying to fight itself free it basically choked the other dog to death and nothing the person could do that was trying to get them undone. Since hearing this and another story very similar mine never wear collars in the house together. RGreen I bet you were so thankful that Gretyl was so smart and alerted you that something was wrong!

I actually did like your toy suggestion. I'm always on the look out for toys that are good. What about the toy did you like is it made of a durable material? Your dog looked so cute laying by it like it was the favorite.

One of my dogs carries things in her mouth all the time. So we buy a lot of stuffed animal kind of things, she is very gentle with them but the other 2 are not when they get ahold of them. Consequently the best stuff toys that I've found that kind of stand up to the other 2 are the kind that the back opens with velcro and it has a squeaker in it. They also sell then with a few extra squeakers. Another one of our favorites because of low stuffing is the animals that have the squeaker eggs in them and the dog has to figure out how to get them out.

I LOVE Goughnuts!! I have had 3 of them in my home for 3 years now so far indestructable!!If the dog ever chews to the point that you see the red inside of the toy send it back and they will replace it with a new 1.So far neither of my 2 have gotten to the center and Rizzo plays with them daily.I highly recommends these for "chewers"  www.goughnuts.com  toughest toy I have come across.

cf33 -

I see we are very close to one another - like 15 minutes tops. Actually my best friend lives where your grooming salon is! Small world!  Are you looking for a dobe for purchase or rescue- I didn't know if you knew there is a dobe rescue in Moon Twp....
