Hi everyone I'm new to this forum so thought I would enter a post to tell you about my Doberman experiences I have from the late seventies onwards had the pleasure of having three Dobermans all raised from puppies and all great family members our first one was called Winston was with me all day everyday at work and home broke our hearts when at 8yrs old was diagnosed with stomach cancer and to end his suffering had to be put down we left it for about a year then couldn't resist getting another puppy he was a blue and came from a great breeder we named him Zeus and as he grew lived up to his name again was with me all day everyday at home and work he was 6yrs old when we had our first child and Zeus took charge of protecting our son moved his bed from downstairs to outside our baby sons room didn't get fazed when two years later another baby arrived at the home he just moved his bed to be between the two bedroom doors always very protective of the children when we were out and grew into the children's co companion when they were at play pined for them when they started school first to greet them when they returned home when he reached 12yrs old i stopped taking him to work with me as I felt he needed a bit more rest in his old age he still enjoyed going out three times a day for walks and just being around the family then at 13yrs 8mths he had a heart attack and sadly passed away we were all devastated and sad for a long time after this I decided that we would not have another dog until someone could be around them all the time so the children grew up having an assortment of other pets until 2012 when I retired and wanted a companion so another Doberman puppy was acquired a black and tan fella we named King who has been my closest companion since then two weeks ago he didn't seem to be interested in going out for our early walk or in eating his breakfast seemed a bit confused so called the vet and they told me to get him there urgently they were waiting outside for us after taking him for examination i was given the news no pet owner want my boy has DMC and will be with us less than 3 months we are again devastated but will make sure his time left will be the best we can make it he is brilliant at taking his medication and crafty as he'll already worked out there is an abundance of treats available sorry this post is so long just wanted give people an insight to our Doberman experience

You have been so lucky to have these royal doggies. It's so sad when they leave us. I hope that you will have aother one to tell us about in time.

Is there a med that is helping your King at all?

Your blue boy Zeus was long lived! Did he have good fur/ skin?

A dobie can make you feel so protected and loved, and yet crazy for getting them at the same time!

Thanks principessa bellisima our blue boy was fantastic he didn't suffer with the fur or skin problems associated with the blue's his father was a blue and also didn't have problems not sure why but Zues was a loyal protective boy expecially when we had children . King has a wonderful nature as well think sometimes he is not sure he is a dog has been marvelous with our grandchildren one of 5 and one 18months they have grown up with him around and love him dearly. I don't think I will replace him I'm struggling a bit with health issues and I don't want to go through the pain again so will visit this forum and enjoy other Doberman owners and lovers lives with their furry friends the trial and tribulations
