Hi Everyone,

We have not posted in a while but you can read much about Bella's antics and life on here.

She is 8 now, her face is getting white, but she is very playful, very athletic and loves to hike with us daily.

We would like to add a young large short hair playmate to our family. We have 1/2 acre fenced yard and dogs are inside dogs. Bella is our only pet.

I found a 10 month old male fawn on craigslist..... I saw him today he seemed very sweet. He's not trained, and is from a byb situation.

What should I look out for other than the obvious? From my limited knowledge he appears to be healthy and purebred. He is big, and has intact tail, ears and balls. We would wait until 18 months or close to neuter him. No papers, all shots. It seems like he should be a valuable dog! But maybe the owner is hiding something.

Please help, any advice about dogs meeting going well or advice about an untrained dobie much appreciated!

thank you!!!

Julia

FYI

I found Tiberius on Craiglist too, and he was the 2nd Best Dog I ever owned.  Sometimes you just have to take a chance.

What a handsome guy!  I would snap him up in an instant.  That whip of a tail is going to hurt.  Thanks for sharing the pics.   Now go take Bella to see him, if she approves snap him up.

Speaking of tail, did that sound right, NOT!

Did everyone see the little dachshund from the U.K. that due to being so happy his people were home with him, he sprained his tail wagging it too much.  LOL how sweet!

Yes, his tail may need some softer surroundings and olive oil to make it heal up. He's very sweet! I'm trying unsucessfully to get my dh on board and or to find an "our adoption fail >new home backup"

Thanks for your encouragement! Yes he's a real beauty. His eyes are a tad small, is all I noticed. His paws are huge!

He looks sweet.  Pretty coat.  Fawns always make me think weimaraner when I first see one.  Looks like at 10 months he might have some filling out to do.  The fawns I've seen have thin coats.  Might be something to think about if the dogs do some roughhousing.  Pretty hard to resist once you've set eyes on a possible new baby.

Thank you!

Well we got him, and he's at Cliff House in Chatsworth now! He is either stuck to my side or playing with Bella! I will keep an eye on his coat, which is complete, but on the thin side, yes his body does need filling out as well. We will start giving him fish oil and better food. Bella play is not very rough, but may get rougher(?) We are very happy. He does not pull at all with a harness, soft lead there too.

I can see now why someone would prefer male to female, just my limited experience so far... Loki is so sweety and snuffly: a total softie...:) He's curled up there on his sofa now....

thanks everybody!

Loki is getting so comfortable in his new home, he is showing some bad habits. He has chewed tiny bites of wooden furniture and brutally attacked the end of a chaise pad.....

I'll just have to keep him more attached to me if that's possible..... just where he insists on being. Our bond is so strong!!

Glad it is going well!

Glad you gave the guy a good home and...

Wish you and Bella many, many more good years together. :)

The longer she is around the faster the training will go with your new guy. Dogs really do learn a lot from each other and you having one already there that is 'at home' and trained the way you like will aid you greatly with the new fella. (save you many hours)

Only advice I have is to always put Bella FIRST in everything you do that involves both dogs. When I brought my last set of pups home they were not even allowed in the main part of the house for several months because that was Princesses territory... I made a point to always feed Princess first, always let her out to potty first, always gave her the treat first, etc.

Princess knew by my actions that she was top dog and I had zero aggression issues with her and the newbies. She actually became very protective of the little buggers over a short period of time and would 'guard' them whenever she felt like she needed to...

Hi, and Thank you!

Any body have some advice about training an almost 1 year old food oriented softie? We do not know Lokis home-life age 0-10 months, but I have the breeders address and could possibly get a few questions answered. (which words used or signals...)

I am thinking of investing in an online training program. So far he sits about 75 % of the time. He is luckily very soft in his harness and his comprehension of and listening for voice command is good, unless he's super excited. We are giving him a little pass just right here in the 1st week....

Bella is mostly happy, she lets him know if shes unhappy about something. She is more playful than Loki. She is definately the Princess and top dog with more priviledges etc. However they are both inside and Loki sleeps exclusively on the dog beds, unlike Sweet smelling Bee who gets couch and inside our bed dibs.

Loki smells too, we are feeding him same food as Bella Salmon Sweet potato, hopefully his fur will be ok and his digestion will soon get over the awful diet he had. He is getting fish oil too.

Cheers

LOL! :)

I remember the first time my current girls (back when they were puppies) thought they were going to come out of the dog room and hop up on the couch.

Princess (the adult) was already in her spot on the couch and started growling at them to warn them away. They backed up and forgot about the couch idea... LOL!

Loki is one today! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOKI:) xxxx

He has been a great addition of joy and snuffly dober-love to our household. Bella and he play very well together and love exploring our 1/2 acre hilly yard that is full of mustard weeds at this time. She is the dominant one still, and such a flirt and loves to play. Luckily all that play has not damaged Loki's coat. We brought out they toys a few times, but decided to put them away again as it made them possessive.
Loki has learned to sit very nice while the food is being placed and he eats 5 cups of Totw, with chicken, fish oil and broth. He is a big boy! 28" high at the withers, not sure of his weight but he is skinny and has gained a little. His recall is fantastic in the house and yard and he is learning down. His coat is improving! It feels thicker and softer. He had some small bumps that went away with olive oil-vinegar-olive salve treatment. There is another pinkish bumpy wound that I have put same on as well as Anbesol so he doesn't chew on it, that is healing. He doesn't chew on himself or things much!
He is reactionary at the (not dog park- but there are dogs there) park. We are going to go back there today with Bella and see how he does a second time, sit and watch etc. He wears a harness and a webbing training collar, it seems the combination (lead from harness goes through loop on collar) is the best way to control him, if you can call it that!! We have taken him on several hikes! I feel like he might need some professional training, because of his non- socialization. His fear reaction is pretty wild he jumps up and twirls and tries to get the leash is his mouth.
Woof Woof I am one!! From Loki, Bee and me,
Everybody take care and enjoy life! Dogs in lockdown: they are all so happy!

I asked Bella if she was happy 'in love' with Loki. She understood and emphatically replied YES!  Loki is amazing, intelligent and loving. I think he knows he hit the jackpot with us!

Last night the Coyote Brethren Chorus were carousing nearby and he barked a little inside the house, but calmed after. Bella preferred to stay in bed after a long day of playing and hiking.

His traing is coming along. He is getting 'down' and working on the basics of 'sit pretty'  :)
