Bella, our beautiful doberman x lab, was brutally attacked by the neighbors female young 100 lb cane corso yesterday. These owners are supposedly famous dog trainers and had successfully recalled their off leash dogs in the past as I was walking Bella by on leash. It was horrible and Bella is recuperating ok with multiple stitches The biggest laceration is behind her elbow on torso, all the other and small ones are in the area of between arms and on front chest, not neck, face, back or abdomen, thankfully) and 3 drains. Right after we thought that we were being chased and had to swiftly flee to safety.

I feel like I have ptsd. I was with 2 others and the man really helped, the owner also, in ending the fight. The neighbors have been very concilliatory paid the 2k vet bill in full. She is on gabapentin, tramadol and marbofloxacin.  Her creatinine was elevated. These neighbors are moving away soon. Please keep her in your thoughts.

She has been eating and drinking pretty well.

Another thought, I'm thinking of getting Loki, our new Fawn Dobie Boy neutered at 13 months in order for them both to be in sickbed and coming out of it at the same time. Is this a terrible reason??

Thank you

Julia

Oh my Gosh - what a nightmare!

I hope Bella recovers quickly. As for neutering Loki - if you think Bella would pester him a lot while he was recovering from neutering when she's back up to snuff, it certainly would give him some quiet time now. Of course, you'll have to watch over him in addition to taking care of Bella, but I would think it wouldn't be too difficult.

I neutered and spayed Dillon and Libby at the same time for that exact reason.

I hope you feel better soon, too. Having dogs run up to my Aussie Daisy and I while we're walking is always scary for me. So much so, I'm finally carrying Dog Pepper Spray from Sabre.

We decided to wait until the recommended age of 1.5 years for Loki neuter.

Bella got the 3 drains removed and is feeling better!

Holy Cow!! I'm glad to hear that she is doing better. That is so crazy - that breed can be very dangerous and anyone who lets them run off leash is serously delusional IMHO.

Bella is doing much better and now the challenge is not letting them play much or rough at all. Neither one likes to be separated but we are trying this most of the time if they are not snoozing. Bella got her drains out Wednesday and in another 4-7 days she will get the stictches out. The wounds look ok, a little abcessing which I am adressing with warm compresses. She is a Houdini when it comes to destroying her protecive sweaters and gear. I have resewn her donut collar straps a few times, and she can take a cone off in seconds flat. Photo about day 2 or 3, another hole )smaller) on chest.

Jeez!!! Poor baby! Glad she's doing better.

Wow again - those were not small wounds. I hope to heck that the owners don't ever let their dogs off leash again!!

The Cane Corso owners promised not to and luckily are moving away. Hopefully very soon. It was awful:(((

Bella gets her stitches out tomorrow or the next day.

Really hurt to see that picture and hear about this happening to you and your dog.

Saying a prayer right now that Bella makes a full and complete recovery and is back to normal in short order. Very sorry this happened.

Many years ago I took my Dobergirls on walks around the neighborhood here every other day. Made socialization and training a lot more easy being so close to home. Took me a few years to finally realize the neighborhood was not so great for that here. Was out for a walk one time and guy washing his car just more or less stood there and watched as his unleashed dog ran over to attack my girls. The guy watched but made zero effort to come get or restrain his dog until I started kicking the holy living mess out of it. I guess he figured it would be funny to watch his dog run over and jack a pair of Dobermans? I hate to hurt any dog but one trying to harm either of my girls is going to have to get through me first.

I called the police right after to file a report about the incident and was informed by the dispatcher that if the other dog has not bit a human than NO laws were broken and NO officers would be sent out. :(

Do not really do walks around my neighborhood with the current girls. Sadly, the risks outweigh the rewards.

Very sorry to hear about this.

I'm late to this conversation but sure hope Bella is doing better!!   I saw where you said she was having trouble with the cone. Have you heard about the BiteNot collar?   I haven't used it but heard many success stories from others that have.  Should even be able to use it when you get Loki fixed.

Here's a link to one.   The other one I saw was a different color but can't find it now. Hope this helps.

Anyway,  hope she is recovering!!

Did you see my post regarding the wound collar?   I'm new here so not sure if I posted it correctly for you to see

Hi

Sorry for my late reply!

Pm2244 thank you for the link! When we neuter Loki in a few weeks we will be using the donut collar or a cone, but if they don't work, its great to know about another type of collar!! Welcome to GD forum!

Thank you everyone for all your comments and well wishes. Bella is fully recovered and her fur shaved areas almost grown in. The scars are pretty invisible, and I don't think they bother her very much. She loves to run with Loki on trails nearby.

The cane corso owners finally moved away august 1st. I had ptsd and never went past their house until they moved.

We are on vacay in Idyllwild and out on a walk today I saw a loose cane corso on someones porch, I freaked!! But the owner had it under control. I could plainly see there was no barrier.
