Shutzhund
I plan on having my dobe (when I get my 1st one in the spring) to be a cgc/tdi.I have no plans to train my dobe shutzhund but however would love to go for a day and watch this breed do this and see them work.I have tried finding this or areas where they have it on internet to go see.How do I go about finding if there would be anything with this coming up in my area? thought I would ask I have only seen them do this on video I would like to go in person and watch this 1 day.I go to dog shows, agility trials, etc but Schutzhund is 1 thing I never have gotten to see.
I do Schutzhund with my male. I would suggest to read up on the sport a little before you go watch. It can look pretty intimidating and scary if you don't know the methods behind it and what they are doing. I even sometimes cringe watching how SOME people train some dogs. There are some things that I draw the line on and will not do. I believe there is always more than one way to accomplish the same means. You will have to let me know if you go out and watch it what you thought about it.
I have a few pics of my male on my website from the beginning of training until now if you care to see them www.rnddobermans.net it would be on the bottom of Romeos page.
D~~ Thank you for posting these pictures on your web site.. I've been waiting for them!! Romeo is absolutley amazing.. Can't wait to hear updates on your stunning boy.. Looks like he takes to Schutzhund like a true champion and will do very well.. You must be so proud of your wild child.
I think Mercutio would have appreciated this Romeo's attitude. Tybalt and all his buddies would have met their terms in the first act.
I see you've got a good photographer too RND.
I would LOVE info if anyone has any on Shutzhund, agility, or obedience training in Upstate NY
Rnd just tried to get onto your website said service not available?
I cancelled my webpage
I've had it up for a very long time. It was a sad decision but the bottom line is the person I trusted to co-own my one and only female from our last litter has screwed me. She was supposed to show the bitch and I had breeding rights to her so I could carry on with my dogs. Well she has basically dropped off the face of the earth and short of taking her to court which I will pursue when money allows she will not respond with even the basics if the girl is alive or dead. Im very bitter towards this person and how someone could be so cruel. So unless I want to start all over again my dream is gone. I really miss not having the website up... I guess my facebook page helps a little just not the same audience lol.
Oh Des, I'm so sorry. I simply fail to understand people sometimes. I sincerely hope you find the courage to start again, you are so committed to our incredible breed and the doberman world needs people like you. After all, there is a young man named Romeo around....
thank you Happydance. Just a small update...cant believe Im considering this and I dont even know if I can totally go there or not but...Im thinking of starting over with Rottweilers. We had one when we first got married and I loved training and working with her.
Will see how all of this unfolds, I dont think I could ever love another breed as much as I do the Doberman but I do have an excellent opportunity that has presented itself. I just dont know if I can make the switch or not. Will probably always have a Doberman though, dont think I could live without one lol!
With every door that closes, God opens a window...
Des, you post made me think of that.
Good luck Des!
I didn't read this thread before. RnD, couldn't you consider leasing a bitch to breed to Romeo so that you don't lose what you started? Or obviously you could buy one with the same intent. It's kind of what I'm looking at now, continuing with males rather than bitches which is not the typical way to do things.
To be quite honest Romeo would not be the male I would want to breed to. It sounds bad for me to say but I have to be realistic and Im not kennel blind like so many are. Im still sitting on him looking at how he fully matures he just turned 2years.
The female from this litter Michelle wanted me to hold on to and see how she developed. I did not do that seeing I had found the perfect home for her that was willing to show her, Okay if she didn't turn out, and let me breed her down the line. She was also questionable in my eyes and I didn't want another pet in the home. this entire litter was more straight in the shoulders and fronts are so hard to fix. So she went to that home which was very carefully picked but obviously not careful enough! Actually not sure what else I could have done.
I had 2 homes fall through for Romeo with many more that wanted to buy him but none I would let him live with and by that time my family would not let him go and I couldn't do it either, so here he is! We adore him and love him to pieces. Funny thing is I had always wanted and dreamed of keeping a really nice male and my husband would not go for it. Now we have the bud boy who does not like conformation, he is so busy and into himself lol that his obedience is not one that I will take into a ring (I like the high scores and a dog that looks like he enjoys it)
I'm really having quite the dilemma with going with the Rottweiler as my heart is with the Doberman. I have a very top notch breeder who is well known for the quality of dogs she breeds as well as mentor in the breed. Her dogs are superb. She also breeds for health and raises her puppies in the same way I do. She would love for me to have one of her dogs just not sure I can do it!
I could buy another Doberman to start over and have seriously thought about it. Finding what I'm looking for is nearly impossible and knowing what I know now I don't even know who I would go to or where to start. Yes there are many breeders but in this breed you have to give on something and the things that I believe in im not willing to give up. UGHHH just not sure what to do! I'm not going to even think about it until after my Boo passes, 3 dogs in the house is enough lol. In the meantime the Rottweiler lady is having a litter which I will be going up quite often to see as well as meeting her at shows for some education.

Not sure what part of Pa you are in, but here is a link to a Shutzhund Club in Central Pennsylvania that has training and trials both. You could contact them, or another schutzhund club in your area to find out the "whens and wheres". Most clubs welcome observers to their trials, and some will let you watch some of the training, also.
