I thought I would share some of Romeos training photos. The action Schutzhund photos always interest me. I find it so interesting what poses they are caught in. Romeo's training is coming together nicely even his obedience lol.

We were asked by Romeo's Sire's owner to submit a few working photos for  a birthday celebration section for Romeo's grandmothers in one of the major Doberman magazines the Doberman Digest. Although this magazine is pretty much just showcases the conformation Dobermans I'm honored that the breeder asked to put a few in.

So here are the couple that I put in for the add. When I get the copy of it I will share with everyone. Probably the only time he will ever be in a magazine lol. The first 3 are going to be in the add along with a couple others that I've shared previously.

" />

And these 2 were just for fun, It's hard to believe by looking at this next photo that he is just a big goofy boy at home who loves his family and the grandkids and still chews the occasional sofa lol. He looks so mean in this but to him it is all a big game. Right now he is learning that barking in the game gets what he wants. It gets harder and harder to hold him. Our trainer says we are ready for the next stage ( i hope that is more control lol)

Wow, those are some great shots!!  That boy is all muscle, I can see you're having quite a time trying to hold him back in the one picture.  Glad to hear his training is coming along so well!  Can't wait to see the magazine ad!  Let us know which issue it is too - may have to pick up a copy

He is amazing.. congratulations on all accounts.. Romeo has such beautiful conformation and muscle tone.. Not only is he a  tribute to Dobermans, he also shows his ability to train and enjoy Schutzhund..

I'l bet part of it is the raw   ( and the sofas)

RND,

Great pics and one day I'll have pics like that to post (well, we'll work at it anyway). I have my application (and dues) in to USA and Central Texas Schutzhund Club. After all their paper work returns, I'll pay my local clubs dues and that part (paperwork) is over. Then it's working with Jax (and me) learning what needs to be learned to hopefully get his schutzhund 1 title.

Any advice RND would be greatly appreciated. And again Romeo looks great!!!

"HE" Romeo is not being featured in the ad with a write up, rather we have an ad in support of his grandmother (a very notable female in our breed) who won the top 20 and is turning 10. Romeos sire's who is out of 2 top 20 winning Dobermans owner asked us to take part and submit some of his working photos. Wow that was a mouthful hopefully that makes sense. Romeo will have one page in the magazine. None the less I'm thrilled because it is not often that the conformation crowd even acknowledges the work that goes into Schutzhund not to mention most of the show lines don't have what it takes to do the work. The magazine will come out right before our DPCA nationals I believe in Aug/Sept. It is not a magazine that  you can buy anywhere (by subscription only) so I will post the submission when I get it for you guys to see.

There is a definite division between working lines and show lines. My goal as a breeder was to bridge the gap and prove that our beautiful American show lines could work. I think I achieved this fairly well with my last litter, they all had the proper temperament to do the job. Although Romeo's conformation is not what I would like he's staying put with us because we adore him!

Romeo is also entered in his very first conformation show this weekend with my daughter showing him. I wasn't going to bring him out until next year for conformation (he needs some maturing body wise) but she begged me to enter him in these shows. Now everyone cross your fingers for us that he will stand for exam for the male judge! Romeo has very little training in the exam and has taken to moving his rear end away when men go over him. If he doesn't stand for exam he could be excused and break the point for the other males entered. How embarrassing, So HE NEEDS TO STAND LOL!

Gunslinger... that is fantastic that you are going to try it. Our club likes you to belong to USA also but I support and belong to the United Doberman Club as well as our local chapter UDC club and have my scorebook through them. I think all of us that have Dobermans in our Schutzhund club do the same. Schutzhund is expensive enough with all the dues to support the German Shephard club also lol. I cant wait to hear how you like it. Have you had him evaluated yet by the club?

RND, I brought Jax to where they train and we had a good long converstion about the whole thing. He was only 13 weeks at the time (14 now...lol) but the little fella is pretty confident of himself. I asked things like what should I be teaching him at this young age and, most importantly, what not to do with him. I don't want to do something contradictive to my/his goals. I have been working with him on tracking and he can track the piece of weiner out to 15 feet (with a little coaxing)...LOL. Also working with the "look at my eyes" thing. He does pretty good so far. All the "training" is rainbows, unicorn milk and fairy dust (positive). He does have a good prey drive, loves to chase and catch the chamois. He'll catch it, we'll tug a war for a couple of seconds and I let him have it (he wins!). I'll work with him at least twice a day for about 15 minutes, sometimes 3 times a day (when I'm not at work). I know we have a looooong way to go but I'm in for the long haul.

I'll look into UDC and join them as well, like you said, lets support dobes. If you have ANY advice, please let me know. The sport looks TOO fun!!!

Just incase anyone thinks I forgot about Jewel, I haven't. We're working on getting her up to par for her CD. You know, doing things the way AKC wants it done.

Awesome, awesome photos! Congratulations to you and Romeo.  I just found a Schutzhund club in town this past week, so I am going to visit them and have them assess Mr. Gideon. Fingers crossed!

Congrates on your dogs training in the sport of Sch. I'd like to know what his backlines are since theres so few North American lines that are capable of Sch training and even fewer in PP training. The USA lines in the 60s and 70s were very capable of performing tasks that involved drives that are missing in todays lines. Congrates to you and I hope you have great success in the future. Von

Von,

Thank you. Romeo comes from a long line of Am. bred CH showlines as far back as you can see. He is the perfect dog for me to LEARN and compete in the sport of schutzhund with as he is easy to live with and forgiving of my mistakes. Our club leader, trainer/director also judges Schutzhund world wide really likes him.

I agree that not a lot of our Am lines have what it takes to do the sport. In his litter we had 4 puppies all of them had fantastic drives that had what it takes to do it. I purposefully raised the litter with this work in mind and did what I could from very early on to develope the drives to their fullest capacity. I had the litter temperment tested by another member of our club who has Euro bred Schutzhund titled dogs and she really liked the entire litter. I plan on learning as much as I can on my boy then finding a Euro bitch to train and compete with at a later date.

I have not ordered Romeo's generational pedigree but have both his mother and grandmother on my website www.rnddobermans.net which can be viewed or you can look it up on Dobequest. Again I haven't entered Romeo's on Dobequest yet but all of his pedigree can be found. His sire is Ch Foxfires take 'n it all (cupie J) out of 2 top 20 winning parents Ch Foxfires all that jazz (jade) and Ch. Foxfires love monstor (cupid) their pedigree can be viewed on dobequest or on Foxfires website. On the dams side she has Ch Cambrias Cactus cash (Eddie) Ch Carousel's Make my day and btw it was Carol Petruzzo who helped me find his grandmother. Anyways I'm sure if you know any of the Am lines you get the picture... not your typical Schutzhund bred dog. My intention as a breeder is to breed solid conformation with good health, stable temperments that can work.

I am in the beginning stages of researching lines and looking for a good quality Euro bred bitch that can compete in both working and conformation sports. I may do a co-ownership with a member of our shutzhund club will see as time goes on. In the meantime I'm enjoying the training with my boy and so is he.

I'm very familar with the Carosel dogs. I knew Carol from her days as a breeder/handler and she lived in Long Island. We would have cropping parties and have about 3 to 4 litters over a long weekend at her house. Carol was and is a great rep for this breed, her and Terry Lassaro (Hunt now) were very helpfull by giving me good tips on handling. The background of her dogs goes back to Mrs. Adamson who was Carols mentor. I trained many Damasyn dogs in PP they were usually Damasyn bred from the sire 100% then 50% of the dams ped was Damasyn then the Dams Dam (50% was vom Ahrtal (Tess Hensler) That was the great ped for a working dog from the early 60s up till the middle 70s.

The Cambria dogs were abit different I knew that backline very well also but there was some character problems on a few of the main dogs. As that line moved forward I did evaluate a few of the dogs from Crypto to Cash and after Cash and was less than impressed the majority of the time with dogs from 12 to 20 months old in regards to their defense, the dogs that did ok with that test didn't do all that well when minor tests when fight was introduced. Now it always takes two to tango but I was testing more than a few back then. I prefered some of the dogs from the Chocolate Soldier over Cash, they showed more confidence. With crypto I go back to training alot of the dogs out of his backline. I did alot of work with Jack Healys K9 Command and Jack was one of the very few trainers that used Dobermanns as his main dog over GSD. Well continued good luck with hard work, I'll look at the ped to see whos up close.

The bitch that Carol helped me get is an Eddie daughter, so her side of the pedigree is Cryptonite. Basteque would be on the mothers side out of a Niklby bitch. I do have to say that my Eddie daughter does not have the temperment to do the Schutzhund and I dont personally care for her work ethic.  At that time though I mainly wanted a conformation show dog. She was tempermental and worked when she wanted lol, I finally let my daughter take over with her and they did very well in juniors, she managed to get a CD, RE and a few agility titles on her with lots of work. The dog taught her quite a bit about patience and made a fool out of her more than once lol. When she was on she was on and they made a beautiful team but it had to be just right.  I bred that bitch into the Foxfire lines which I LOVE, it was this breeding that brought a much better working temperment. The bitch that I kept from that litter has a wonderful work ethic and very strong defense. It is with her that I again bred back into the Foxfire line and absolutely love the puppies I got out of that. So although they are not your typical Schutzhund dog many people in our club are amazed with the drives that he has and how well he does. Now if I don't mess him up everything will be fine. He is my learning dog and so far I think the sport is amazing and I've learned so much myself through it.

Michelle's (Foxfire) new special which is out of Jet(Lex-Foxfire breeding) is also training in Schutzhund. I'm not sure how far they plan to take her but will be interesting to watch unfold.

Q-tip...It is good to have you back on the list. How are things and how are the dogs?

that sounds like a fun training program! how do you find a breeder whose puppies would have a chance to compete in it?
