I'm thinking of getting Phin involved in Fly-Ball next summer, once he's done obedience training for a bit, just wondering if anyone is involved in the sport.

If so, what do you think of the sport?  I would like to get him involved in something that would keep him busy, focused and a good way to burn off some of the boundless energy.

I very much wanted to do fly ball but Athena just doesn't have enough toy drive. Also I am not sure how competitive dobes are just due to their size. I know a lot of the people are very crazy competitive just like they are in agility.

I don't know much about it, I was reading up on it last night though and it sounds like a great sport!  I sorta thought the opposite of CF, I was thinking dobes would be good at it because they are so fast.  And the height of the jumps are based on the smallest dog in the team.  Are there different categories for the teams based on size?

Steve's breeder has one of his dogs in Fly-Ball and King is competitive and enjoys it - to me, the enjoying it outweighs any need to think about if the dog is "competitive" enough.  He went on to get into dock jumping, which I think is better for the athleticism compared to fly-ball.

Give it a try! If you guys like it, then keep at it and if you don't, keep looking until you find something that works for you guys.

Steve has no toy drive either.  Only thing that gets his interest is running (and jumping) and sniffing.  So I focus our training/sports on those things.  :)

Good luck! Have fun!

We were looking into Fly-Ball too... Skye seems to enjoy the jumping (were not making her as she is still young... she WANTS to) and she has a moderate toy drive... but I would rather get her into dock jumping... but alas, no clubs to be found...

see where we are we're pretty limited on the number of sports that are available in the area for dogs to particpate in, no dock diving here either!
