We need name suggestions :)
Hi guys!
Ok, so Atley had "Race" or "Speed" picked out for our new pup, but after meeting him these names do not fit at all. We are having a hard time coming up with a name. We like names that are different and that are not human names. Our red boy is a sweetheart and very laid back. Think you can help us out by suggesting any cool or interesting names you have heard?
Thanks
There are some good ones here...

Some lovely names there Sweetpea, love the name willow and sage.
Lots of dogs are named Tui here. Its a lovely bird. Aroaha means unconditional love in Maori or aro for short :) we also have our great big red tree...'Kauri'. 'Tama' means son,' Reka' means sweet. Incase you wanted something different.
Rufus means red-head in latin. I always thought that was a cool name.
:) The police dogs here get names with the letter of the month they were born....so for October it would be the letter O.
Take a look at the AKC registered names of his parents.. you may think about incorporating with that.
Surely do need a photo!! ![]()
I've always wanted a Doberman named Jett, but never did use that name...mine have mostly been females.
I know you said that you like NASCAR so what about something like Talladega, Pocono, Dover or Fontana?
Definitely need photos!
Thanks for the suggestions guys :) I like names for their meaning. I like Jett too, and had that picked out if we got a black pup, but I just don't think it fits a red pup.
That's a neat idea Q to have his name start with the same letter as the month the dog was born. How funny that you use October in your example. Our pup was born October 22nd, lol! We'll have to add a name beginning with O to our list below :)
We have been tossing ideas around. Atley brought me the baby name book and wanted to go thru it with him, so even though I don't like human names for dogs we went thru and picked a few out. Here they are:
Andre
Dominic
Luka
Tomas (German pronunciation with a long O)
Zion
Reilly (this one comes from O'Reilly Motor speedway where the NHRA US Nationals are held every year)
Sorry guys, you'll have to wait a little longer to get pics. We aren't picking him up for another 10 days. The breeder said she would email me a current pic of him. When she does, I'll post is on GD.
If I had two black dobermans (males and female) their names would be Nox and Umbra. More latin names for night and shadow. My husband has a thing for latin. The only reason we didn't name Harley Rufus is because Kevin already had a cat named Rufus. But Nox and Umbra are still in the piggy bank for future use.
Does your son like the movie Cars? I just watched it again the other night, maybe a name from that? Going with the Nascar theme...
Lightning
Mater
Guido (the little tire changer guy)
Well in my discusions with Atley tonite he really, really likes Andre. Andre is the French form of Andrew which means "strong, courageous". When we were going thru the name book picking out names, I was telling him what each of the names we liked meant. I asked him why he liked Andre the best and he said "Because, Mom. Dobermans are big and strong and they ain't afraid of nuttin!" I had to laugh. It was so precious hearing him say that. So, I guess Andre it is
BTW Sweatpea, Atley LOVES the movie Cars. Great suggestion, but I'm thinkin' we are gonna stick with Andre.
Adorable! Andre is a great name :)
Andre seems fitting for a red-headed, handsome doberboy!
Thanks Zelda. I wish I had some pics of him. I'm anxious for you guys to "meet" him. Ah well, all in good time, all in good time, lol
Hi, funny you have chosen Andre, happens to be my son's name almost... DeAndre and he was born with reddish hair, LOL!
When we chose Loki my sons were looking through mythology, we have a fascination in my family. When we received him the shelter had the name "Swag" no clue why but we thought because he was so withdrawn the name Loki would be sort of funny and totally unlike him. We have a cat named Nefretiti, for the beautiful Egyptian queen, she is a calico/tortie and only beautiful to me! Anyway the joke was on us this time "Loki", mischievous and a trickster god, he is living up to his name well. Thankfully we did not choose Ares! I also like O for Osiris.
I also like Dover .....or maybe Apollo....I always thought the name Apollo IS perfect for a dobie....thats from Magnum p.i...right guys??...YES i AM GETTING A LITTLE OLD OLD...i KNOW!!
I like the name Ciunas(sp?)... Gaelic for "silence".
Love Andre..
Good choice.. and I, like everyone else here on the Forum ..... am very anxious to meet the new young lad and of course the rest of your family.. How we love the babies here.
