Ok so Harley is 10 1/2 months now and just took him down to the vets this morning for his monthly weigh in. He is 35kg on the dot, or 77lbs. Can anyone tell me if this is an average weight for his age and any ideas as to what he might be fully grown?

He isn't fat, or thin by any means, the vet said he is spot on with his body condition. But the vet I went to see doesn't have much experience with doberman's so thought I would come to the experts :p I will take a photo today so you can see.

Oh and on a side note, I booked in his neuter for a April 2nd. He will be 13months by that stage. I know there are varied opinions on when to neuter but I'm wondering if those of you who agree on the later stage neuter if this is a good age or if we should wait a couple more months, for him to fill out a bit more?

Thanks in advance guys :)

We're planning on a neuter at 18 months, but that's just so that winter is over and most of our family activities are done with.  I think 13 months is a good age too.

Sounds like he's right on with his weight, can't wait to see the latest photo of him.

I think his weight is just fine...right where it should be. We need new pictures of him now that he is growing up lol. I like the one that you have of him curled in what appears to be a car seat? It is amazing what they can fit their big bodies in.

I liked that same picture, rndd, Harley is such a nice striking dog, can't wait till he fills out completely and we see him full grown.  You know my big old collie Goofy could curl himself into the small cat beds, too funny, he would have his nice collie-sized bed and the small toy dog/cat bed on the floor and he would always choose the little bed over his own, he could get sooooo small......unlike Uncle Ben here, who sprawls out full size and then some. I kinda like the curlers, less dog beds to trip over, hahahahaha

From what I've read you might want to also wait until 18 months for the neuter. It is thought that testosterone plays a role in closing the growth plates and desexing a male before he's fully grown will cause him to be a half or full inch taller(in the legs) making his appearance a bit lanky.

Of course, I don't claim to have first hand knowledge here -- just the messenger. Here's one of the articles that make such a claim.

Dexter's breeder told us it was best to wait until 18 months, gives him time to mature.

We got Drake neutered at 20 weeks because he kept humping everything.  He's now 7 months, ~65 lbs, and 29" tall (4' 9" standing up).  I don't think it stopped his growing at all.
