Doberman Condemned for Jumping?
I think you guys will all want to pile on this one... It's about a Doberman in my State. A man was reaching down to pet her, she got excited and jumped, and collided with the man's nose breaking it. So the man reported it as an attack and the city attorney wants to put her down.
Condemned for jumping - sign the petition to save a dog named Heidi
That is such a riduculous lawsuit. Good grief, would that have been considered an "attack" if it had been a Beagle, or a Poodle rather than a doberman? SIGNED the petition.
What a waste of resources and effort. That city attonery should be ashamed of himself for pushing this issue and indulging that man.
I already signed the petition and called my husband to do it too. This situation could easily happen to us. Harley, although we train for sit for petting, is not that great at it. And his head is SO hard. Any other breed's life would not be put on the line for this kind of behavior. So sad!
Wow, will the stupidity never stop? If there are obviously no BITE marks on him, how could it be a bite attack?! I've had a dog who bit our friend on the nose...it is pretty obvious. So rediculous.
Signed.
I read on Doberman Talk that the attorney backed off and Heidi will be allowed to stay with her family. Fingers are crossed, waiting for conformation...
Hey Abigal.. that is GREAT news.. I missed that. thanks for posting..
Signed it just in case she needs more support
I know I have leaned over and Ben has come up with his head and I thought he would knock me out hurts us both. Stupid people beget stupid responses.....
Signed just in case.
I signed! Wonder what would happen if the owners of Heidi would turn around and press charges on the man who "attacked" Heidi? ![]()
When I was picking up Princess, I leaned over to pet Drako and he came up and gave me a fat lip for a while. This is just part of being around big dogs. Anyone who says they have never encountered the hard head of a big dog, hasn't leaned over one to pet them. Red used to get me on occassion, and Jake has as well. Princess likes to keep all her paws on the ground, but she has gotten me on a rare occassion. Having been around big dogs, I tend to lean down slowly, the man probably leaned down quickly so that the collision was more significant. As I've said, I have gotten a fat lip or two and a sore jaw, but never a broken nose.
It just shows how ignorant and ill informed that city attorney is. A dog does not attack with the top of their head, they have these wonderful fangy things that are more effective, even though they do seem to have a very hard head.
Here is some recent information: http://www.clickondetroit.com/community/A-Royal-Oak-woman-s-online-plea-to-Save-Heidi-grows/-/2207168/8586364/-/57yucqz/-/index.html
Apparently the dog did bite man, probably (hopefully) from fear. I'm glad they aren't pressing to euthanize her, and that the owners make the right decision.
I also saw and signed this on dobermantalk. Seriuosly what is going on with this country? Why are people allowed to do this? Look at what happened to Tess and his doberman Diesel, and he didn't bite anyone but was still put down.
America is turning into something that isn't America anymore. Yes, humans are greedy, but can't we keep that greediness to a low-down when it comes to sensitive things like beloved pets?
I signed it just in case.
Skyler broke my nose a couple months ago... and again just two weeks ago. I'm clumsy and she's hard-headed. lol.
Signed it, JIC.
Lol it could have happened to any of us Wolfgirl.
Signed it anyways, what kind of person just walks up to any large breed of dog that they do not know and crouch over it in dominance? I grew up learning to respect animals and how to interact with dogs.... you just dont do what that man did!
Signed it. The more the better. People really tick me off, it's so sad that our country has become such wimps. The guy made a mistake, there was a negative consequence. Instead of accepting responsibility, he blames the dog, and society accepts and in some ways supports this behavior. We as a society have lost the ability to hold people accountable for their actions, and try to take and sue people every opportuniy we get.
My standard poodle accidently broke my mom's nose when he was excited. He wasn't mad, just overly happy.
A few years ago I was bitten by a Cane Corso. It hurt, I was bleeding, but it was a recently rescued dog that had been beaten and I made the mistake of trying to pet it when the owner was not near. Who's fault was it that I got bitten? Mine. The owner apologized a bunch and asked me not to call the police. I told him that it was my fault, I approched the dog, it didn't attack me. Therefore, I told him not to worry about it and went on my merry way, because I put myself in that situation.
perfect example of how pathetic our society has become. No one is ever responsible for their own actions anymore. It can't possibly just be that this guy was stupid, no no...it has to be the dog's fault.
I signed it several days ago - it was going around facebook, even have it on my wall. However that being said - let me point out the most important part of this article (highlighted below) It's ALSO the owners responsibility to take care of their part....the petition is helpful just to ensure they don't push to put her down BUT if the owner does their part this should not be any issue at all.
If she pleads guilty with explanation and pays a fine, she can continue to keep the dog. If she pleads not guilty and loses, she pays the fine. Only if she refuses to plea or refuses to show up to court, she can forfeit her right to keep the dog. She is currently in possession of the dog," said Gillam.
The dogs name is Heidi... so is mine!!! She is black and brown... just like me. Has a big mouth... just like me. With big feet... just like me. She has German roots... just like me. Heidis are super sweet and lovely girls! There is no evil bone in us!!!
Mit freundlichen Gruessen,
Heidi
Jokes aside. I signed this petition a while ago and hope I got through to others around me to do the same! I am very happy about the outcome and hope the sweet pups owners will do the right thing and show up in court and pay the fine if they have to.
