Charlie at 8 months 8-28-12

Happy 8 months, Charlie!! I think you're VERY handsome!
There are lots of folks here who love their Dobies uncropped. And no, they are not mistaken for Doxies. I know. I've had a couple.
(jtrent39 - please remember. It's the "Gentle" Doberman.)
Sorry but someone has to defend the dobermann heritage. If you don't want to crop, there are plenty of breeds that aren't typically cropped., please don't defile the dobe breed by parading dobes not cared for. I am not trying to be mean. And by the way my dobes are very gentle with my family and children Kim.
@jtrent39: Doberman heritage or your own personal choice? I personally prefer natural ears and have had rescue dogs with cropped - both being awesome companions who are well loved and cared for. I don't think ear cropping has anything to do with how we love this breed nor respect their level of protection to our family.
I wonder why not having the ears cropped comes off as not caring for the doberman? that seems very judgmental, there are times - at least when I worked at the vet hospital here - that dobermans actually could not have their ears cropped due to physical issues that would threaten the dogs life. I do not see where cropping the ears proves more "care" for the dog or breed. And how does having a doberman with natural ears defiling the breed??
Chrismg has posted a milestone in their dog's life and I don't think it is appropriate to turn their thread into anything but a celebration, one that a member of this forum felt excited enough to want us all to share in.
And I agree Kim there is no mistaking a doberman for a dachsund......
Happy 8 months Charlie!!!! Hugs from Ben, tell Charlie that Ben is a rottweiler and has wavy hair and some people have been this judgmental about him and said that it's a huge fault and should not be acceptable - I say "get a life, poor Ben is on cancer drugs that make his hair come in thick and wavy so until you know the story behind the dog don't fuss about my dog's hair" after all he's 8 years old and not being shown so what difference does it make?? So tell Charlie, Ben can sympathize and sends yodels for 8 months of love and happiness and many more......
Dont get me wrong I'm all for earcropping and personally crop all of my dogs incuding all the litters we produce, however I dont mind the natural ear on the Doberman at all. It has nothing to do with not being cared for as jtrent states. In fact this will probably not sound very good but the photos of jtrents dogs ear crop are not good at all. The photos show that the dogs ears have deep pockets in both of them, so if your going to crop and put the dog through pain at least learn how to tape and do it right. That in my opinion is more using your direct words "defile the dobe breed by parading dobes not cared for" than an uncropped Doberman. JMO

I looked at the photos and understand what you are saying. I personally prefer the shorter original "Guard Dog" cut from the early 1900's, I do not like the long high cropped show ear or what the technical term is?? I do think yoor dogs look very stoic and all have a great crop and set.
Chris
Even if I prefer the shorter over the longer crop I think natural is fine as well. I in fact would have not cared either way if we did Shelbi's ears, the tail was more important to me, of course that was done before we got her, but it was too long after she grew and we had to re-cut it when she was spayed. My husband was the ear advocate I just researched the cut, but really wished that I had spent more time researching the vets ability to cut, we had issues, but she is my "BABY" and that is all.
Happy 8 Months to CHarlie looking forward to more pictures and watching him grow.

jtrent39 poor dobe? because his ears aren't cropped? Come on to my property without my permission and Charlie (and Gabby) will show you the true 'doberman heritage'. To assume that dobes with natural ears are not cared for is appalling!!! You (and others) are the reason I do not post on here much.
EVERYONE ELSE...Thank you. Both of my dogs are rescues and they are the best thing that happened to me and to them!!!
Chris,
I did not know they were rescues. I would like to take the extra time to thank you for rescueing.
Jeri
Happy 8-month mark, Charlie--you are gorgeous.
@jtrent39---what you said was just plain RUDE. No need for that.
Chris! A BIG hurrah from me too for rescuing your babies. God bless you.
Please don't let one rude person keep you from posting here. I for one would love to see you keep posting! (And continue to see photos of your gorgeous babies!)
Jerial..it is not about the cut or style wether you prefer military or whatever, it is about a person coming on here and putting down another Doberman saying basically if they didn't want to crop their dog to buy a different breed and that to have one uncropped was defiling and parading around a uncared for Doberman. My point is this person has his dogs ears cropped and they have huge pockets in the photos. So if you are going to put your dog through the pain and discomfort of cropping and aftercare and make statements like this at least see to it that you are doing a proper job taking care of what you have first. This is much more showing a uncared for Doberman. So again not about style or length it is about care of the Doberman and love for the breed...cropped, docked or all natural. I am going back and forth about removing my comment but I wanted to stand up for Charlie's owners. This entire thread should be about celebrating Charlie not the awful thing that was said
Chrismg...I love the photo of Charlie and I think it is fantastic that you have 2 rescued dobes. They are very special. When I get more property I would like to do more rescuing and placements, the rescues have a special place in my heart. I personally am looking forward to seeing more photos of your kids and watching them as they grow.
Also, keep in mind, this is an international forum, and quite a few dobes are not allowed to be cropped or docked.... Australia, Scotland, Ireland, England, etc etc.
chrismg: To me, what just happened on this thread is few and far between. As Kim said above, this is the gentle doberman, and the regular contributors will defend that adjective. The site logo above shows an uncropped doberman. Your rescue is beautiful! Thanks for posting!
jtrent:
Shame on you!!! NOT NICE!! And not only is it rude, it's completely false.
chrismg:
Charlie is absolutely charming..( Charming Charlie.. has a ring to it no?)
I love the way the light catches his gleaming coat and I know he's going to make a wonderful addition to your family.
Bless you for rescuing. I wish more people would do the same.
I have to apologize to everyone, I was wrong with the use of my words.
This week for work it is my job to find inspirational quotes for our reader board. As I was reading through a bunch of them this one jumped out at me humbled me and made me think. I was wrong.

RND love the inspirational quote, but I was just acknowledging that I recognize what you were referencing with jtrent dobey photos. I meant no disrespect to anyone I was just acknowledging that I had learned something about cropping that had never been shown to me before. BTW - I completely agree with everything you commented.
I think all dobeys are beautiful and deserve a good home and to be treated with love and care where ever that home is whether they are docked cropped or no matter what color.
I apologize if my comment seemed offensive.

He is a cute boy and cudo's to you for rescuing. I'd much rather see a Doberman with natural ears than a bad crop..... and personally have nothing against natural ears. As a show breeder, I crop my occasional litters.... but I don't judge a Doberman by its ears :-)
Alpha Admin's hair was probably standing on end this morning.
Thanks for taking it down Webby!
Charely you are a handsome dobie.. I have had all kinds of ears on my dobies.. I am not fussie
i am getting a dobie with the shorter ears.. I love her already.. Persoally if i had a pup I would leave the ears natural..
as you see there are different thoughts here on ears.. but they all respect the opinion of eachother
One storie I think i may have told it before.. I was walking thru a park with my sister and her dalmation.. she loved that dog and Abbie was a beauty.. a woman stopped and riticuled Abbie and told my sister that she could NEVER show Abbie because her spots touched each other and that was a no no in the Dalmation world.. like who cares.. Abbie was my sisters baby they loved each other.. some people need to get a life and stay out of others..
OK said my piece.. I dont think i could stay quiet like i used to..
When I take my Missy to the vets I dare say someone will say something.. I will say i rescued her and will get her in shape.. she is a sweet girl and who cares if she isnt a perfect dobie.. she is a littl overweight but who isnt.. lol..
Hugs, Bet
We don't have a choice whether to crop or not in he UK as cropping, as is tail docking, is illegal but even if it was not I would want my dobie with natural ears, just personal preference, no other reason. I think most of your dobes with cropped ears look awesome but I think you like what you are most used to. I am now getting used to dobes with tails and, you know what, they look just fine.
The Heart of the Doberman can not be cut out...
Bet
I sincerely apologize for upsetting anyone. I am sorry that my opinion was deemed rude.
All apologies, Jason
Oh the rnddobermans, panzer's ears have not yet been posted....... So they will look just fine in a few weeks. Your hipocritical remarks about his ears will surely make you a hero to the forum, very professional Mr breeder
I know full well that his ears have not been posted yet and the sutures are still in. Good luck with the pockets.
I looked at Panzer's pictures and he was a darling puppy he looks like a ball of fun and I am sure he will be a great dog in adulthood - he really is cute hope to see his finished look soon. Thank you for actually posting an apology that was very kind. I am sure Charlie is still celebrating.......
Wow is all I can say. Please let me weigh in on the ear cropping. If Im correct their is no medical reason for the cropping. Its just cosmetic as well as the tail. So with that said I say its up to the owner and the breeder. I for one have a 4month old, non-cropped, dobe and that was by my choice. I was offered to have him cropped, but I passed. I got my dog for a pet, not a show dog. Nothing against show dogs, it just not my thing. Now with that said, congratulations Charlie, you are a stunning representation of this magnificent breed that we all love soooo much. Keep the pics coming. Nose bumps and hugs from Axel.
Tess
Charlie is one handsome devil! Looks very well cared for, too. Gideon has natural ears as well. I'm not against cropping - he had a double ear infection when I got him so I decided to leave them as they were - wouldn't change him for the world.
To each his own. Different crops or not cropped. I like what Bet said. You can't cut out the heart of a Dobe. It doesn't matter about the ears or tail. If it's your dog & you love him/her, who cares. We best get used to uncropped, un docked. I fear the day is coming to the U. S. & Canada where it will be illegal to do so.
Happy 8 month!
Tayoh has natural ears too, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
