hey guys, i recently bought a dobe pup, love her to bitz ! shes 3 months old & recently shes developed a huge bump on her head. been to the vets & he said its nothing to worry about as its just a joint capsule which will subside with time.

my question is has any of you ever had this happen ? vet said he could xray it & drain the fluids out etc etc but it wouldnt do much as it would just come back & also risk infection.(sticking needle in etc etc)

she doesnt seem phased by her new best friend whatsoever ! plays as usual & eats like a horse as usual.

not sure how to upload photos to this thread ?can anyone tell me how ?

cheers

What is her vwd status?  It sounds like a hematoma, but I would be suspicous of a puppy developing one that was not going away.

hi fitzmar, vwd status is clear. breeder has sold many pups & none have had any reports of any health issues. (iv also spoken to a few of the people who own her pups)

the vet said it will go away so i guess i can only wait. so far shes still happy as usual lol.

I'd be curious to see a pic of it... because they are often known to have what we call 'smart bumps'

Certain angles make it appear larger than others but I call it his Unicorn horn....

Lori, I love that picture of Rocky.  I feel like Harley gives me that expression all the time.

it has appeard to have gone down slightly but its still there. how do i put a picture up ? do i have to have them uploaded online first ? or can i attach one directly from my PC to this thread ?

Skunk I had trouble uploading pics too, I did find that if I edited the photo with Windows Photo gallery and selected the pic then selected properties, resize and then "small" then put it in Photobucket it was suggested that I use Photobucket to put my "gallery" pics up and then its a matter of selecting from there with the icon here. I think I had to have two browser windows open so I could cut/paste the url for photobucket into the image window I swear I am not remembering this well enough to help I guess. Good luck on getting a pic up it took me a while to "get it" now I'm not sure I remember how.

Thanks Harley - that's his exasperated 'What, Mom' look :)  after a day at the track he was trying to sleep on the back seat until turned around and bother him haha.

Skunk the easiest way to post a pic for me since most of mine are on my phone is to upload it to photobucket/flicker/etc.  Once you have it there just Cut and paste the {IMG} code it gives you and you're done.  I prefer that method so I don't have to mess with the re-sizing and all that.

Skunk surround your image URL with these like this:

{IMG}http://www.website.com/someimage.jpg{/IMG}

but replace all of the "{" brackets with "[" brackets.

I can't use the correct code or the editor will try to add display that image.  That is all there is to it though.  Upload your image some where to say Photobucket and paste that code into this little editor.

I don't think you have the site set up to allow PM's.  Usually there is a tab under your profile that says 'contact' and it allows PM's.  Yours does not offer that but if you PM me your addy I'll reply and you can send your pic to me if you need help.

I say take her to the vet, that doesn't look normal.  Especially if it is changing shape and size

Personally I'd be taking her to a different Vet for a 2nd opinion but that's just me.

iv been to two vets & theyv both said its nothing to worry about. maybe i should go to a third ?

went to puppy classes today, she was as happy as ever lol..the bump doesnt phase her & is going away.

The only puppy I've ever seen with a hematoma like that on its head was a VWD clinically affected bleeder.  I know you said that the breeder told you she is clear, but do you have proof of that?

Cairo has the exact same type of bump on his head as Rocky does Lori.  Our vet is not worried about it but I will have the breeders vet look at it also when we take him to have his skin problems assessed.

He's also happy and very active.

I would definitely get someone else to look at this, I don't know much about doberman issues such as this lump but as far as my initial look at it my first thought with human knowledge and other animal knowledge was hematoma - for certain this can't be normal, so yes please get a third opinion, it's good that she isn't phased by it though, keep us posted

hey guys, the bump has pretty much gone now & looks alot like loris picture.

i expect it to shrink furthur as she grows, which is exactly what the vet said it would do.

will get some new pics soon.

Our little dobie also has a bump on the top of his head. We call it his "cone". It fits his personality perfectly!

we call it his Unicorn Horn - it's not usually as pronounced as in the pic.  If you were just looking at him normally you wouldn't really notice it at all but at the right angle and with his ears down it can look huge ..haha

I believe it's just his skull bones...some dogs as their head widens it levels out more than others.  So a bit of a bump isn't completely unusually but I wouldn't say it's standard either...we had a thread or so on here you can probably find talking about them with pics.  I think it was titled something about 'Smart Bumps'

The Unicorn Horn as Lori calls Rocky's ridge is where a lot of the tendons in the face attach. It seems to be more pronounced on some males than others. Red had a good sized one.

Now for attaching photos. As many have said, Photobucket makes it fairly easy. Now I resize most of my photos to 640x480 before I upload them as it doesn't take as long to upload them that way. I use Paint in the Windows accessories are to do this. Never, however, work on the original image. You only have one. Make a copy in another folder and work on the copy.

Once you have it in Photobucket, when the image is in the album along with all the others, when you move your cursor over the image, four lines of code will appear under the image. One for e-mail & IM, one for direct link, one for HTML code and the bottom one for IMG code. This is the one you want. It even starts and ends with the IMG tags. Here is an example:

When you place your cursor on the code, left click it, and it should say momentarily "copied" and then go back to the code. Then go back to the GD forum posting box, put the cursor when you want the image and then right click and paste.

You will then get a little box pompting you to hit CTRL+V which will populate that box with the code you have copied from Photobucket and then click on ok.

My goodness, what a growth spurt!   How long between pictures? That looks like quite a difference.  Don't be alarmed.  Looks normal.  If you really want to show growth rate in photos take pictures beside them same object all the time. One person here said they took pictures with a coke can beside the dog just for the purpose of seeing how much their dog had grown.  Weight can be done by weighing your self, then pick up your pup, subtracting the difference gives the dogs weight.  Someday you'll be able to answer another's question as to weight gain etc.  Height is measured at the front shoulder in case you want to do that too.

My friend took home her 10 week old pup on May 5th, same day we got our year old Daymian.  She lives in Michigan and I in Ontario, and I am amazed every time I see her dog, how fast he is catching up to Daymian.  The mother of her dog weighed 120 lbs. and the male 145.  The grandfather was on site too @ 150!  I'm not into super sizing Dobes and mine looks big to me.  ( he's bigger than our last male) I am interested as to how big this pup is going to get.

I'm glad the bump is gone.  Did the vet re-assure your mind that everything was okay?

hi , the pics of her with the egg on her head were taken sometime in jan to early feb this yr.

shes now 8 months old. diet consist of chicken frames, chicken mince, chicken wings, lamb necks, chicken casarol peices & of course vets all natural grains which i mix into the mince. '

she was on preimum dry biscuits but since changing over to raw iv found her to have a nice coat as well as the fact that she doesnt do massive poos allover the backyard.... & LOTS of them.

ill get a picture of her next to the other dog for comparison !

the vet basically told me he could stick needles into her head & take samples etc etc but he didnt want to (had i asked him to he would have as he said it was my call but i trusted his judgement) because that could just introduce infection etc as he was 100% confident that her egg was nothing to worry about as he had seen it many a times in the past with other dogs etc as well as dobes. turns out he was right !

Hi, I'm having the same issue with my 5 month old Dobe pup. She's developed a lump on her head that looks almost exactly the same as sundae. She does tend to hit her head A LOT but this is the biggest lump she's gotten so far. Did sundae's bump eventually go away? Any assistance is much appreciated! The lump doesn't seem to bother her but it looks crazy & I want to err on the side of caution when it comes to my baby! Thanks!
