Looking for a doberman around 2yrs of age.  I grew up with Dobermans, Love the breed, and want to my 11yr old daughter to know the same kind of love.  It's been difficult to find doberman that's not a puppy.

If you're wanting to go the route of skipping puppyhood, then look into your state's rescues, or if there are any close by to you.

I do work during the day and feel that is unfair for a puppy to be home alone.  Hence the age request.

My application was approved at the local doberman rescue.  However my situation of two cats and a child is proving difficult to find "the right fit".  I am trying to look at other options as well.

A good rescue should have dobermans in that do get along with cats, I found a state rescue here that had alot of dobermans that liked cats, and 11 year old child should be acceptable as she is not a small child surely there is a rescue out there that would work with you.....but once again I know what  it's like to want a rescued dog and have the rescue refuse....look on their website and find in their description dobermans that get along with cats and then take your daughter with you to visit the dog so they can see how she interacts with the dogs.....maybe that would help???

Good luck I never did get my doberman got addictied to rottweilers as a result :) and the rottie rescues are SO EASY to work with!!!

Hope you find your dog.....

Thank you Talisin.  I really appreciate the kind and supportive words.  :)

I read on one of the forums to touch base with the rescues periodically due to employee changes, schedules etc.

I emailed the shelter this morning and recieved a call this evening.  They have a little girl they have in mind for me and

would like me to meet!  I am very excited.

I think I was too excited.   After two months of waiting I lost faith that they would be able to find the

"right dog", and I decided to try to find other options.  i was wrong.

wish me luck!  :)

Good luck!  Maybe this is the one.  But if she's not, reputable breeders sometimes have adults or older puppies that have been returned for no fault of their own.  That could be another route to take.
