Kimbo's ears are posted
We just got back from the vet to get the cup removed from his ears. He had the cup and e.collar on for two weeks and did really well with them.
We assumed the vet would take the e.collar off now that the cup is gone but he said it should stay on for a few days until he gets used to the posts.
The tip of his one ear isn't quite healed and it keeps rubbing against the collar. Before we left the vet we showed him and he said it was normal and he should still keep the e. collar on.
I would think it would keep irritating his ear because of it rubbing against it. I really want to take it off but I don't want to go against the vets advice. Also the vet only taped the lower half because of the top half not quite healed yet but it seems really loose.
I think the collar is more pain than help right now. Any suggestions?
I've never used an e-collar for any of my dogs after ear crops, spaying, neutering, not for anything. I just watch them carefully, and get their attention redirected to something else when they start to scratch. Sorry, I have no advice on the collar issues.
Go with your gut, it usually never steers you in the wrong direction.
I didn't use an e-collar with Phin, he came home with it post-op but it didn't last more than the car ride home.
Thanks for your input:) I'm looking into the inflatable version to see if that helps. I'll return it tho if I feel it isn't neccessary;)
Well I took the e.collar off and i've never seen him so happy!!! I didn't get the inflatable one. I figured as long as i'm keeping a close eye on him, he won't hurt himself. So far he hasn't bothered with his ears. I can't say the same for the rest of his body. He chased his "nub" of a tail around and "found" his feet again:) I'm so happy to see him happy. He is a little more bity but we are keeping chew toys handy.
I'm sure he's much happier with the collar off!
My pup scratched at his new posts for the first day or two but then only time to time... the tape holds well usually so not to much concern. The nub takes time but will heal good luck!

I've never used an elizabethian collar with a puppy in a cup or posts and that is from day one. I shudder when I see these poor puppies having to live in them. Yes they might scratch a little, but for the most part they leave the posts alone if they are done right.
