New to the group....thanks for the early welcome! :)
I just purchased 2...yes TWO males, brothers, black with br markings from a breeder in florida. Reputable BUT does NOT crop ears....i am searching high and low for a vet/hospital in my area (CT)...if anyone knows of a reputable place that does crop please pass along info

We had a Dobie in the past and the place that did his, no longer does!
Thanks in advance!
Christine

I hate to tell you this but NO reputable breeder would sell two brothers to one home - not ever!!  It is a receipe for disaster and is the worst possible combination of two males you can have.   I would highly recommend that you return one or rehome one while they are young enough to be easy to find homes for.  JMHO and I truly hate to be the bearer of bad news.

As far as ears, my cropping vet is in NJ and is one of the best in the Northeast - you may want to consider traveling to get a good crop.  Her name is Sophia Koster DVM

as far as it being a "desaster" wd you mind telling me why?  i have done research and i from the looks of what others are saying including several veterinaries it wont be a problem, as long as you train them (dog obedience) classes when they are young...your not the berrer of bad news thats why im posting...in hopes for general feed back which is greatly taken into consideration! again thank you for your comments...

Same sex aggression is very common, and then to add on top of it all, you have littermates.  I have to agree with Fitzmar, no reputable breeder would do this and it is a HUGE recipe for disaster, regardless of how many training sessions you go through.

I'm sorry, I agree with the others.  This breeder is not reputable, nor responsible.

1st for selling littermates to the same home.  Here is some reading to consider:

http://www.doglistener.co.uk/choosing/siblings.shtml
http://www.caninedevelopment.com/Sibling.htm

2nd for selling two males, in particular, to the same home.  Male/male aggression in Dobermans is extremely common once they reach their full maturity, and they are unlikely to live in harmony over the long term.  One of the #1 reasons we used to get approx. 18 month old males into rescue was exactly this reason.  Irresponsible breeders would sell them to the same home and assure them it's no problem and then all hell breaks loose when they mature and they are literally trying to kill one another.

3rd for not cropping.  Responsible breeders take care of this for their owners.  They don't leave owners to flounder around on internet forums trying to find out where to go.  They take the puppies to a good cropper, they keep them throughout the healing process and allow the puppies to go home after the stitches are out with full instructions and demonstrations on how to post and sometimes with optimal posting supplies.

Seriously, now that you've learned that the breeder is far from reputable, why would you even get the one there?  We've probably only seen the tip of the iceburg there when it comes to irresponsible breeding.

Have you seen the results of health testing on the sire and dam of the puppies?  I mean the results of hip evaluations, elbow evaluations, CERF eye tests, vWD DNA tests, cardiac ultrasounds, Holter monitor ecgs, the new PDK4 gene DNA tests, complete thyroid panels, liver panels.  All things that responsible breeders test breeding stock for.

Yeah not to be a debbie downer, but I have to agree with Glengate, make sure that you're still comfortable with getting your pup with someone that is obviously not as reputable/responsible of a breeder as you initially thought.  You may be setting yourself up for years of health issues if there aren't any health test results on the parents of this puppy for you to review.

Do what you feel is best for you, but know the risks and figure out if they are outweighed by the benefits.

Good luck with your choice.

I must agree with the others on this. It's not a good idea to have 2 male littermates in the same home. A good friend of mine used to have 8 dobies and she made sure none were from the same litter or parents. She went to great lengths to ensure her dobies were not related. You have fallen prey to a backyard breeder. I live in Florida and purchased my Brea from a breeder in Louisiana. He assured me he was a professional (LIAR) with the breeds best interest at heart. She is a GREAT dog and I feel extremely lucky to have her but I will NEVER again do business with a breeder that I have not visited and inspected their operation. I became a member here in May. You might want to check my first posts and see if there is anything we have in common. Such as the breeder LYING to make a sale.

I wouldn't even get the pup... it's best to wait for a pup from a reputable breeder. If you really can't wait... you could always rescue. You can get an older puppy whose ears are already cropped and save a life at the same time.

Welcome to the site Christine!  and good for you for doing the research first and NOT getting to male littermates. You have already been more responsible than most new owners...:)

As for getting even one of them, I'd have to agree with the rest.  I would be hesitant to trust them at all after that.  It shows they don't truly care what happens to their dogs or don't know and either way it's probably a good idea to avoid them.
