We will be leaving around 6:00am to go on our 3h roadtrip to Rhode Island to get Dexters Ears done! AND I AM A NERVOUS WRECK!!!! Not sure if I really know what to do... you can only read so many articles and watch so many videos. I think I did too much research on ear posting and wrapping, it just confused me more than I was to begin with

Dexter will be 10 weeks and 2 days old tomorrow. I know we are cutting it close, but I wanted to get the best Vet for his ears that I could find and the good man is booked^^

The doc comes highly recommended from the Doberman Club in Boston and I could only find very good reviews about the clinic.

Just got home from buying supplies for  'aftercare at home' I am decked out with everything you could possibly need for 3 different ways of posting ears. I know it is overkill, but the German in me came out and forced me to BE PREPARED!!!

Wish me luck! Can't feed Dexter after 6pm and he will not be a happy camper tonight :)

One of the last pics with floppy ears....

Everything is going to go great.  Posting seems a little daunting at first but once you do it, you'll wonder why you were so stressed about it.

Make sure you take the "last floppy ear" photo tomorrow morning before he goes in to the clinic, he will look so different when he comes back to you (in a good way of course).

We also got our dobie Magnum done when he was about 10 weeks and some days and his ears are doing great so around this age wont harm the chances of his ears standing. Persistant posting once the stiches come out and the edges heal are a must we have his postings changed every 5 days. We paid for the aftercare package which allows us to come for up to a year after his surgery to watch them post his ears and learn all we can. We are gaining as much knowledge from this so our next doberman's aftercare will be done by ourselves. Good luck with the crop and posting.

Finally back from the Vet and I have to say that I have a very good feeling!

Dr. Troob told us that Dexters cartilage is excellent and that his ears will stand in no time at all :)

The man has been doing Dobie ears for 30 years and learned it from a breeder who has been doing it for 50. He showed us a foto of his own Dobe and the ears looked GREAT!

We ended up paying a bit over $500.

Since we got home, Dexter has been around the house acting like a mad man :)

He seems to be alright. A bit sore, but fine....

Congrats on the crop! He's going to have great ears whether they stand or not. I hope it does stand though ♥

WHAT A NIGHT! Did not get any sleep watching my sneaky little baby trying to get the cup off his head :( Besides that he seems to be completly normal! I made the mistake of posting his pictures on my facebook. Oh boy, did I get heat from my 'friends' back home in Germany....

The Vet told me to clean his ears twice a day. With a warm/moist cloth first and then with poroxide. He does not want any crust to form.

Is that normal procedure? I stacked up on antibiotic creams, silver powder, and everything else you could possibly need for wound treatment that has been recommended by breeders/owners/other vets.

I never allowed mine to get crusty either. I always used neosporin on mine, I think the peroxide might burn a little. Some people allow the ear to dry out and pick the scabs off...YUCK!

I use an antibacterial/anti itch powder on the edges and allow them to crust - you can tell when the scabs are ready to come off.  I would not use peroxide at all!

The powder I use is called BFI - tried to copy a picture of it, but it didn't work.

He is sooo cute!!! I don't think the peroxide is a good idea.

I ditched the peroxide and use an antibiotic powder (Tyrosur, a German product) in the morning and Neosporin at night. The cream at night, to avoid him leaving traces all over the house :) I gently wipe his stitches with before I put any treatment on! So far it seems like it is healing well.
