Ozzie is 24 weeks and I've had him for a month. Id like to crop his ears but I'm not sure how well it'd turn out at this age. If I get it done id do a short/military crop. Any comments appreciated.

No.  Ears are cropped prior to 12 weeks.  It's much too late.

Thanks,I know that's the general concensus. I only asked cause I seen some posts I think in another dobie forum about some vets waiting till 5 monthes. Wasn't really sure how that works out. They didn't post any pics or anything.

Definitely not recommended past 12 weeks, it would be a complete waste of your money, too painful for your pup and honestly any vet that is willing to do a crop at this age is a vet that I would run as fast and as far away from as I could!!!

The cartilage is too developed at that age for them to stand properly, as they have assumed the downward set.

The military crop is not a good look for a Doberman anway but it's too late. I wouldn't put him through it.....

What all of a sudden made you decide to do this?

****Need Help with floppy ear*****

I Have a 7 month old male doberman puppy. We got him at 6 weeks and his ears were already cropped. Both ears stood up perfectly after posting. They stood for about 5 months. Once he started teething one ear flopped and we have not been able to get it to stand back up for longer than an hour. We noticed one of the ears was cropped larger than the other and that is the one that is flopping. The picture on my profile is before teething. The picture above is what his ear is doing now. Do we still have time? Is it too late? What can i do to make it stand?

How long did you post them for? they need to be posted for several months after cropping to ensure they stand. If he's 7 months old now and they've stood for 5, that means you didn't post for much longer than a couple weeks? I realize short crops stand faster but seems way too short of posting. And the person you got him from cropped and gave him away at 6 weeks? yikes... They need to be posted, I think.

Thank you for the reply. Ok, my husband corrected me. We got him at 9 weeks. I am a first time doberman owner and i am lost. How should i post them? What process? I have tried rod, tampons etc..and nothing works. What is the best method? I posted more pictures of the floppy ear. What do you think the best way to go would be and for how long. Thank you!

I'm obviously not an expert - but I think a rack might help?

I use the tampon method for my puppy, tho.

He's cute like this - one ear up, one down, but I do understand the struggle you feel.
