New to this community and looking for any information on partical tears in the achilles tendon. We have a 10 year old boy that loves to jump off of our deck and this last time he apparently tore his achilles tendon. The doctor has told us they can do surgery but will be very expensive. My question is due to his age, which he normally is very active even though he thinks he can do more than his body will allow, and with this being only a partial tear is putting him though surgery the right avenue. Has anyone gone through this with your baby? Thanks so much for any input.

Kimber - I have been busy and am just now going through all the new posting. Sometimes a thread or post gets moved down the list in time of high activity. This is also an unusual situation and in 28 years of working with Dobermans, I have never encountered this.

My procedure when an unusual situation occurs, is to discuss the pros and cons versus the cost with the vet.

What is his opinion as to the impact on your boy if you do not have the surgery done?

What is his opinion of the sucess rate of the surgery?

Is the cost something that will put your finances in a tail spin, or something that you can easily handle?

With the answers to these questions, you can make an informed decision.

I would like to welcome you to the Gentle Doberman forum.
