Hello

I am a little uncertain on how much to walk Rolo. I have only done 10 mins a couple of times this week as I have noticed him stretching alot and don't want to overdoo it as he runs like a looney in the garden anyway. What is recommended and when do I increase and when I do by how much?

Sorry I have tried to find a previous post but think I've gone blind looking!

Thanks

Hi - our breeder advised 5 minutes for every month of age twice a day.   This seemed to work well for Cleo and she also got time playing in he garden each day.

Hi poogie.. they will wear themselves out pretty quick at this age.  As he gets older he will have more energy.  I hope when you mean "walk" you are talking about in your yard and not outside where other dogs have been and exposing him to parvo and other diseases when you are in the vaccination process... if you haven't already please read the information I provided on this thread regarding parvo: http://www.gentledoberman.com/forums/doberman-pinscher-discussion/doberm...

You can easily start training at this age, he just may not fully understand everything.  You can teach him to sit and lay down just by taking a treat and guiding him into the positions and then rewarding with food.  You don't have to add verbal commands to this just yet, it usually just confuses them.  You can start playing tug or short plays of fetch.  You can start playing hide and seek in the house with yourself while someone else holds him and then make noises to encourage him to find you.  THEY LOVE the mental games just as much as the physical ones.

Hello Jeshykai and scotty

We are in England and he has had both his jabs and waited his 2 week period so is safe to go out and has been cleared by the vet.

He can already sit give a paw beg and we are working on down. I know he isn't allowed very much exercise at the moment I have only been giving him 10 mins  every other day and a little longer when we went out on Saturday. So maybe he can have an extra 5 mins than I thought. We are very fortunate to have a large garden so he sbelts around outside everyday playing fetch a ball again this is a work in progress as he sometimes forgets to fetch it!
