Hi guys, Duke has multiple white spots on his elbows pretty much since he was about 6 months old. And on his back paws as well. I asked the vet and she didn't really have a good answer for me on what it was or on how to treat it to get rid of it...she said that it was self inflicted.
Anyway I'm wondering if you ever had something like that on your dogs before and on how to treat it? It looks like some calluses but I'm not sure. My Previous dog Princesse had real caluse on her elbows and I was never able to get rid of them...I'm including a picture to show how it looks. Thank you for your help in advance.

Sorry about the picture being so big that's all the photo editor would reduce it for some reason.

I asked my Vet about Dystopias elbows looking like that and she said it was normal and that it happens to all Dobermans (including hers).

And then she examined Patience and commented about how flawless her skin was everywhere...

With Dystopia I use regular hand lotion on those spots when they become noticeable and it seems to be working well / helping. Her sister needs nothing of the sort.

Some Dobermans develop elbows like that and some do not. It can come and go also.

Have never noticed any behavior that would lead me to believe it was some sort of 'self inflicted' thing.

Thank you Dobermanguy for your answer, that's great I'll start using some hand lotion right away! Oh good for Patience she doesn't have it. I know me neither I never noticed him doing anything to his elbows to cause it...

Some dogs get calluses from laying on hard floors - however, not all elbow crud is regular calluses. My Jezebel has what looks like calluses on both of her elbows, but they are actually some kind of filled hard  pockets - like if you squeeze them stuff will come out, but it's not puss. They don't seem to bother her at all, and my vet was not concerned. They are just unsightly.
