I've been searching around online for breeders in CA. Do any of you have experience with either Aldercrest Dobermans or Windsor Dobermans? Can you give me any information? Their websites don't offer much, and I don't necessarily want to call just yet. Any input would be great. Thanks!

I don't see anything about health testing on either of these sites...

You're lucky, Adlercrest is a great breeder!  I'm not familiar with Windsor, but Adlercrest is a good breeder that puts out some great dogs.

I doubt that Adlercrest would be interested in selling to you unless you are very Doberman experienced, and plan to work the dog.

Windsor produces very nice Dobermans as well.  The website may not have all the information, but personal contact is recommended to follow up on that.  The Brownings work in the veterinary field, I believe.

Hmmm, alright. When the time comes, I will definitely contact all possible breeders. Now here is another question: What do you guys know of Devenshire Dobermans?

Speaking of breeding -- some guy posted a few weeks ago the statement that if the "thumb print" marking on the side of the head is connected or "washed" into the muzzle rust marking that it denotes bad breeding -- any truth to that at all?

Just curious, ever since I read that I've been looking at those marks when I see a new Dobe...

thanks much.

Whether the thumbprint is open or closed has nothing to do with quality - markings should be clearly defined and rust is prefered to what is called "straw" colored.  Markings that are not clearly defined or light colored are just a deviation from the ideal.  No dog is perfect and while everyone has their opinions/likes/dislikes deviations from the standard will be found in every dog - it is just the extent of it that makes a difference in the quality - and the fact that some deviations are more critical than others.

Not sure if this helps at all  :)

Thanks Fitz, that clears that up for me:)

Wish I could be of service Abigail but, alas, I wouldn't know:( I must say though that the photos from the devanshire site are impressive -- the photo of "Panzer" from the star wars litter... wow, what a handsome dog.

Yea, I know. Gorgeous looking animals. Obviously, if what they say is true, they put a lot of stock into health and working. Quite high in the price range, but that would be expected for really high quality dogs, yes Fitzmar?

I didn't manage to wade through that whole website and don't know anything about them - never heard of them at all.  My gut feeling is not positive, but truthfully I don't know enough to give a real opinion.

D, I have been wondering the same thing about the thumbprint, and I also have been checking it out on any new dobe I see.  Ha ha.  Thanks for clearing it up, Fitzmar.
