I think a good idea for a website would be to have a list of breeders and a way for people who get a puppy from those breeders to have the ability to write a review or at least give a rating of their experience.

That would be helpfull to me right now. All I can do is take the breeder's word for everything. Seems like a shady business.

I think that is a good idea too. I would also suggest the same thing but for people to advertise stud service.

It would also be good to have a listing of veterinarians who crop doberman ears.

Agreed, this is a good idea. We will start this part of the project soon. Allowing people to review the breeders might be a good idea as well. I'll have to give some thought to making it fare and protecting our listed breeders from malicious persons, and of course from self promotion....

I'm posting in this topic as it was said several times that all the original person could do is take the breeders word for it. What a shame! you do not take a breeders word for anything! Do your research STUDY,STUDY, STUDY, STUDY the breed ask lots of questions and ask for proof. Quit buying out of IGNORANCE! We wouldn't have half the dogs in rescue if people did the research and bought dogs from reputable people. Breeders also need to research the buyers, do home checks MAKE SURE you are selling a dog that fits the home that is buying it. It makes me absolutely sick that backyard breeders sell to anything that has the money to buy one of there dogs! Everyone that loves this breed needs to make sure that the Dobermans we have are well trained and represent the breed well. We are under attack and are at risk in many cities for loosing the right to own a breed such as ours due to careless breeding and buying practices. Make sure before you buy that this is the breed for you! They are not for your average everyday pet owner. If you buy the Doberman breed then make sure you are a good pet owner and TRAIN THEM.

If, I may give a favorable review...

We purchased our Dobe at Britton Farms Dobermans. Fortunately, we live less than a two hour drive from Britton Farms Dobermans in Smithville, TX. However, they of customers from all over the country. Travis gave us a complete tour of the place. My wife & I were very impressed with how clean the place was kept, as well as the quality of the Dobermans. It was nice to be able to see our puppies parents, too. Travis & his family are awesome Doberman breeders.
