I have a Doberman girl who is 1 1/2 years old. I hope to show her in the near future. After some showing I then thought it might be a good idea to breed, especialy if she does well in the show ring.

I would like to breed her to a champion male, does anyone know of such a stud available?

I helped a friend show a Standard Poodle some years ago so I have a good idea about showing. I've never bred dogs myself, but I did assist that same friend with some of the puppy responsibilities when she bred her Poodle.

Showing the dog is a commendable idea.  There are more important things to consider, such as health screening of both your dog and the posssible stud.  At the very minimum both dogs should be checked for Vwd (preferrably the Vet gen test) you should research the pedigrees of both dogs to look for things like OFA certification of hips.  If this has not been done it is a good idea to have it done usually at 2 years of age. The dogs should also be screened for cardio myopathy and hyperthyroidism at the time of anticipated breeding.  Unfortunately the latter can show up even though a dog has previously tested negative in the past.  Stability, health and temperament should be the primary goals.

I totally agree. My female that will be bred this coming August is one of only 71 Dobermans throughout the ENTIRE United States that has met all the recommended health testing for a Doberman. She has received what is called her CHIC# To receive this number your Doberman must have all testing to include the temperament test specifically for Dobermans called a WAE when they pass this and earn this title is is turned into a WAC. They must have a vWd test, eyes cerfed, Thyroid from an approved laboratory not just the simple ones your local vet runs. They must also have there hips OFA'd, on top of this they have to have an ecocardiogram and 24 hour holter monitor. So as you can see from this list it is very expensive to fully test your Doberman the way they should ALL be tested before producing a litter. Believe me when you are doing what you should be doing as a breeder YOU WONT MAKE ANY MONEY. I have $9000.00 invested in mine just from the last year this includes health testing and showing. If you would like to take a look at her please visit my website at http://www.rnddobermans.net her name is Paris, she will be bred this August to a fantastic stud with equal health testing. He is also a mobility assistant dog and was a reserve winner at our last DPCA specialty. Another thing I find interesting is I charge the same amount for my pets as do some of the backyard breeders who do no to little health testing and know nothing about the lines there dogs come from.

Pet Profiles

Good website and good looking Dobes. I really like the photos of them playing in the snow in the woods. Paris looks like she'll be a good mom. Looks like a lot of dominant blacks in the pack.

Thank you! I love the blacks. I really like the colors fawn & blues but the coat issue is not fun to deal with. Not to mention it is extremely hard to finish one in the show ring. So we stick to the blacks, the reds are great also. you need to post a new picture of your puppy I'm sure she is changed alot since the last.

To anyone contemplating breeding a litter and wondering how much it would cost and what things should be done I'm including a link to an interactive site from the DPCA that will ask questions and calculate the numbers for you. Anyone that is thinking of breeding should take a look at this. http://www.dpca.org/BreedEd/DobermanLitterCosts.htm As I said in my post when done properly there is no money to be made.  ???
